I remembered something! Years ago we had a Chihuahua patient that had blood in the feces. We kept checking for intestinal parasites etc., no go. This little dog was never out of the house (hardly out of the owner's arms). We managed to keep it a night or two and the symptoms disappeared. She took it home, and then it was bleeding again. We were at our wits end. The owners were an anesthesiologist and his wife, therefore, we knew that anything that they said that they saw or did was actually the truth. After we kept the little dog another night, and fed it the food that we used, the symptoms were gone again. The woman took the little dog home, and called us a little while later. She had an idea; she took a can of the dog food (Alpo) and washed it through a colander. She found at least 1/3 cup of ground up bones that were as sharp as razors. She brought them to us to see. We wrote a letter to Allen Products, and their answer nearly floored us. They realized that there was a problem for some very small animals, and they were changing the grinder size from 5/8 to 3/8!!~ You might tell your veterinarian about this. Although Allen Products changed their grinders, other manufacturers may not have. All of the meat 'by products' are 4 D meats (diseased, downer-cow, dying or dead). By-the-way NEVER EVER FEED BIL-JAC!!!

But Lynn, you are giving your cat 1/3 TWICE a day.
Cheryl,
The cat food that Abby is on says that she should eat 3/4 of a cup a day. But the vet told us when we first got her that she shouldn't have more than 1/3 of a cup morning and night. He didn't want her feeding all day long, he wanted her hungry for two meals a day. So she gets 1/3 of cup in the morning and if she finishes her food than she gets another 1/3 cup. In between she gets a few grains of fiber one cereal or 9 cheerios as a treat when I eat my breakfast. If I don't give her this little bit of cereal she trys to eat the cereal out of my bowl while I get my milk. I love this cat dearly but I am not going to share my bowl with her!! She couldn't eat the Purina cat food. I tried her on that first and it gave her such a problem with gas that all of us were miserable.
I doubt that Taffy is that hungry. She would tell you in words that you could understand!! I am sure that you haven't mistreated your cat. Do mix the new cat food with the old as cats don't like changes in their diets very much and they will go on a hunger strike.
I had never given Abby treats as I was concerned about her gaining too much weight but when she got too thin late last year I started giving her 6 greenies at a time. She absolutely loves the things and they are good for her teeth. She has been eating the chicken variety but I got her some tuna ones to try. They are 2 calories per piece.
I have typically mixed when changing cat food (vet said to prevent diareaha)
To be honest many of the dog and cat foods seem to be very very optomistic about how much food you should give your pets!!(optimistic in terms of how much the can sell us!!)
