Type 1 DM after the age of 50?!!
Donna, I am not a medical person but there is a connection between the hormones.
Cheryl and Donna,
There is also a connection between autoimmune diseases which is why we need to test the thyroids of diabetics. Donna already has one autoimmune disease in having Lupus so it isn't uncommon or unexpected for diabetes to show up. There are many more autoimmune diseases beside thyroid and Lupus.
Gee I was trying to figure back if its 5 or 6 years!! then read the survey and all I needed was the decade!! Good an EASY question!!
Hard to believe it was Thanksgiving weekend
My endo (treating me for hypothyroid) just did a fasting glucose as part of routine "you're over 45" lab work and there it was - 2 fasting glucose readings in the 130s, just high enough to diagnose. I was 46 at the time.

Right now my diabetes is so out of control due to medications I am taking. It's very scary.
