I'm Confused

Last week I nearly died because my monitor gave me a reading of 260. I took my BS again and it was 122. I don't get it. It seemed on the level after that. Now today, 2 hours after I eat I get a reading of 160. Two hours later it is 86 (after a walk in the park). Two hours later I take it (I ate dinner with about 52 carbs). I take it 2 hours later and I take it three times to make sure, 193, 204 and then 178. Are my numbers really that are is my meter messing up. I checked the test strips and they are within normal range as it says on the container. My numbers couldn't really be what the meter is reading can it? I don't have funds for another meter so I don't know what to do.

Thanks.

First off, your numbers 'could' be fluctuating that much.

Thanks Cheryl. I did use the solution and it seemed okay. I took my BS within a minute of each other and got 178, 204, 160. It would fluxuate that much? And from 86 before I ate? I am confused. There is a number on the back. But I got this meter almost 2 years ago so I don't know.

Mine was older than that.

OK. I might need a new solution since I know it is older than three months. I have a Ultra 2. I just checked again and it is down to 118. The thing is, do I eat a snack or not? I am afraid to even eat.

I would keep anything low or no carb but it doesn't sound like glucose wise you need one.

Steph,

When you checked the meter with the control solution did the reading come in the target area set by the meter company? The solution will tell you what the "normal" reading is for your particular meter.

There can be a plus or minus ten percent difference between reading and that is normal. So I am not alarmed by your post meal numbers especially since you said you ate 52 grams of carbs.

Did you call the meter company? They really are your best bet for help and I have found them to be wonderful.

Hi Mary Frances. Thanks. Sorry for the confusion, my name is Debbie, I am mom to Steph :)

I did use the control solution and it was in range, but my solution, I believe is older than 3 months. I should get another bottle and try it and if it still is in range, I will call the meter company. That's great that

Debbie, the company will send you the solution for free.

One thing that no one has mentioned yet is a dying battery.
