It has been suggested to me that I may have this spincter of oddi dysfunction. Does anyone out there have it? Usually occurs after gallbladder surgery, the pain continues. Just wondering!! Adrienne

Thanks for the replies. The last time I had my blood levels checked was back in February when the pain orginally started. They were all normal. As I looked into sphincter of oddi dysfunction, I read that about 40-50% of people ended up having normal levels. It just feels like my doctor has given up. Basically said that if the Robinol Forte didn't work, there is nothing else he could do. The pain tends to feel like a tightening feeling. He said that the meds work as a muscle relaxant(?) Needless to say, it worked for about 3 weeks and then the pain returned. I am only 28. I am not going to live with this for the rest of my life!! I guess its a matter of getting a second opinion. I'm still trying to get an appointment with my doc at Northwestern but no one returns my phone calls after 2 months and 8 calls. It is very fustrating as you can see. Thanks again, Adrienne

Hey Adrienne!

I agree with you that a second opinion is in order.

Lynn,

This is the first I've read of a correlation between Sphincter of Oddi (SOD) & pancreas. My blood tests came back perfectly fine with the exception of elevated pancreatic enzyme levels. WBC and all else checked out okay. CT scan confirmed this. Just had HIDA scan today, so won't know if gallbladder is culprit. If ejection fraction is normal, I may need to look at SOD. Can you tell me what reference you used to determine this link? I would much appreciate it!

Thanks!

Lynn,

Thanks for the article. I found it very informative. It sounds like once the gall bladder is gone, then they turn to SOD as the possible culprit. Very interesting..

I just got my results back a few minutes ago on the HIDA scan. I knew there were no obstructions because I saw my gall bladder on the monitor. I was hoping a low EF% would explain away all of these symptoms, but no such luck. My EF% was 67%, perfectly normal. I spoke to the nurse and asked if they had documented that I went into an "attack" on the scan table. She said nothing was noted. I asked her to talk with the doc about next steps because my symptoms won't be going away on their own. I'm not sure what avenue to pursue next.

I wonder if people still have their gall bladders removed even if the results don't warrant it. I'm sure insurance won't cover it. Why in the world would I become symptomatic upon injection of the kinevac? I'm really at a loss now...

Any advice you or anyone else could provide would be appreciated!

Regards,

Keylay

HI. I have had my gall bladder removed in April, a week later they took a stone out of my liver. Three weeks ago I was back in the hospital because of intense pain, and intense nausea and vomiting. I had an ERCP while in the hospital (both times) Today, I was told that they want to do yet another, but this one more in depth, as I keep having pain on my right side, going from rt to left, stopping roughly in the middle. Some times the pain is bad, I could scream. They put me on a drug called Levbid, 2 times a day to help the spasms. Guess what?? I still get them....Like I said, now they want to do another ERCP, this time in Milwaukee, at St. Lukes Hospital. I read that sometimes the spasms never go away, even w/ meds. I am a mother of 3 children the oldest is 6.5 and the youngest is 3. I also go to school pursuing a 2 year RN degree. I read somewhere that stress can bring these attacks on?? I am also on a 3 antidepressant medications. Do you have any info???Is there anyone else out there with similar problems?? I could really use some extra help on this one>

Thanks
