Worried about my mom
| Wed, 09-01-2004 - 5:37pm |
My mother (mid-60s) has been having severe digestive problems for the past 3 months--foods she's always been able to eat, and with no apparent commonalities, send her running to the bathroom about an hour after meals. She's been to numerous doctors, including specialists, who can't find anything wrong. She's had a colonoscopy, stool tests, blood tests, knows she's lactose intolerant but has been for years, and nothing has turned up. She started taking acidophilus, which has helped a little, but not consistently.
I'm hugely worried because she's losing so much weight--like 20 pounds--very quickly, and though she tries to eat more to keep up her weight, it isn't working.
I'm incredibly frustrated (as is she) that no one can find anything wrong, and that doctors don't seem very creative in their diagnosis attempts. They say "try such and such" for a couple weeks, but it never works, and that's a long time to be in such discomfort.
Does anyone have any suggestions? She's going to keep trying new doctors, but I'm really worried about her. Thanks,
J.

Hi Jeelan!
Welcome to the board!
Hi and Welcome Jeelan,
Hi Jeelan,
I just wanted to drop a note here to let you know that something very similar happened to my mother at about that same age whenever she would eat anything containing eggs.
Thanks Lori for the wonderful reply!!
