Heartburn, expanded ribs, back spasms

Hi,

I went to my doctor about severe burning from my breastbone to my bellybutton. I have also experienced my upper ribs expanding outward to where I had to add bra spacers in my bra to even wear it. All my muscles spasm - from stomach to back. The doctor put me on prilosec and said the swelling would go down. I've been on the medicine for 2 weeks. My lower abdomin swelling has reduced. However, the space under my ribs has not. It hurts just as badly as it did then right under my breastbone and along the left rib bone. I have had bouts with nausea. My back goes crazy if I even attempt to wear a bra, no matter how loose. I can't wear belts either.

Has anyone ever heard of this? Should I wait until the 8 weeks of prilosec is up before I return to my doctor about the rest of the swelling? Or should I see a chiropractor?

Any help is so appreciated! Thank you.

I went to the ER this morning having alot of difficulty breathing with pressure under my sternum. After all the tests, I have lung inflammation (thus the swelling under my ribs), in other words a virus - acute bronchitis. This is interesting because I do not appear sick nor do I feel sick but in fact I am. It will run it's course and I will take anti-inflammatory meds. I also have a rib out. Apparently this is quite common in women. It's usually the 6th rib on the left side. So is mine. So I will definitely see the chiropractor tomorrow about getting that put back where it belongs. My symptoms of acid in my stomach, expanding ribs due to inflammed lungs and pain on my sternum were really not related to each other at all. That made self-diagnosis tough and my primary doctor only solved the most apparent problem at the time - the acid in my stomach. Just thought I'd through in the update.

thanks,

Jennifer
