Looking for info on hemorrhoid surgery

I'm wondering what the recovery is like from hemorrhoid surgery. I developed bad external hemorrhoids while pregnant 2 years ago. Despite 3 episdoes of banding (which wasn't exactly a walk in the park, but was tolerable) to pull them back 'inside' they continue to be a problem. I've been doing all the right stuff like eating fiber and being gentle with BMs, etc. Anyhow, I talked to the surgeon today and he recommended doing 'minor outpatient surgery' to cut the worst one off - leaving me with some disolvable sitches. He said it can be quite painful when the local anesthetic wears off. Basically, I have a choice of living the rest of my life (Hey, I'm only 35 - so it will be a while) with this darn thing, or having the procedure.
I'd just like to hear other's experience with the recovery. How was it? How long was it bad? Did pain medication, stool softeners, etc. help? How did it compare with banding, if you also had that done?
TIA

Hi and Welcome
Hi and Welcome to the board!
I wish I could give you some first hand advice here, but I really don't have a clue about hemorrhoids.
