Pancreatitis?

I'm new to this board and I was hoping to get some advice on a medical problem I've been having... First of all, I had my gallbladder removed about 1 1/2 yrs ago due to a huge gallstone. Things went pretty well up until last week, when I had excruciating pain around the area where my gallbladder used to be...it was so bad that I went to our local ER. My amalyse levels were outside the normal range (I think the high end of the normal range is 75 and mine was 140). Anyways, they gave me IV fluids, pain meds, and an ultrasound to see if there was a blockage in my bile duct causing pancreatitis. They decided that there were no visible blockages and sent me home the next day and told me to take it easy and come back in two days for repeat blood work. A few days later, my amalyse level was 59, and I was more weak than anything, but the pain had pretty much subsided. Now, a week later, I'm getting "bouts" with this pain in that area that lasts for 5-10 minutes and goes away again. Has anyone ever had anything like this?
Thank you!
Jen

Hi Jen!
Welcome to the board!
Thank you soooo much for your reply and great information. I don't have the nausea, vomiting, stool problems but the pain is VERY intense when it comes on. It's a very sharp, piercing pain that sometimes wraps around to my back. It starts in my upper abdomen towards my right side (near my rib cage) and wraps around down towards my kidneys. I'm going to the dr. tomorrow, but I don't have too much faith they will find anything. I went through this (only on a lesser scale of pain) back in February and they basically told me to just "Deal with it." They didn't offer any possible diagnoses or how to treat it, just take this pain pill and be done with it. We'll see, though. I'm going to a different doctor tomorrow, so maybe that will help.
Thanks again for the info!
Jen
