Hi!

I've been unable to eat much since my stomach problems started 7 weeks ago (dr. still doesn't know what it is). My intake is probably around 800 calories per day (before problems started i probably was at 2500/day), so as you can imagine, I don't have a whole lot of energy. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of higher calorie food that is easy on the stomach and could help provide energy. So far I've been eating rice, bananas, crackers, toast, and applesauce, but none of that is very high in calories, so its not much help. I have recently started drinking Ensure which definitely provides more energy, but anyone else have some suggestions??

Thanks!

Hi - I thought I posted a response yesterday - but I guess it didn't work for me. So sorry - it's my computer - not iVillage.

Have you thought about elimnating certain food groups. Some of the ones that commonly cause sensitivities are gluten, eggs and dairy.

It isn't easy -but it can be done.

The diet you described has no protein and very little fiber (although depending on the type of bread and rice you are eating there may be some fiber) and is very high in carbs. As far as fat content - there doesn't seem to be any 'good fat'.

Will your doctor refer you to a dietician - in my experience I've found that doctors don't know that much about helping patients eat a well balanced diet. Or they just don't have the time to spend with patients talking about 'what to make for dinner'.

Or refer you to another doctor or specialis if he/she isn't making any headway.

Please post again to let us know how you are doing. My heart goes out to you - with such a low calorie diet you must be just exhausted.

HI Elleyjay!

I was going to suggest the Boost, Ensure, Ensure with Protein, to try, but I see you have already tried it.
