This entire post may be TMI so I apologize but I'm really looking for answers here and feel I need to be specific. Not sure my GI knows what he's doing.
So I have Celiac and Crohn's Disease, diagnosed at age 21. I am now 24 and have been medication-free and pain/symptom-free for 6 months by living on the SCD diet.
with one acception. i believe this strict diet is what causes me to get constipated, so every three days I take a stool softener, or if that doesnt work I take one Dulcolax. I take a fiber supplement everyday.
This does cause me to have loose stools very often, sometimes everyday... but i prefer that to not being able to go for a week or not being able to eat because i am so "stocked up". So i live this way, but "you pick your battles" !! my energy is up, no pain, no meds, im healthy, active etc etc.
however... i experienced a stress-induced flare up on the 15th where I had bloody diahrrea. There was alot of blood, so much the water in the bowel turned red. But i experienced NO pain associated with this. 5 minutes later i got very dizzy, drank some water and laid down 30 minutes later. Nothing like that happened since. I have even INSPECTED my poo... but no blood.
The only other thing I notice, which I think is extremely odd... but I'm hoping you knwo what it is.... is that is almost every one of my BM's I notice yellowish or clear looking strings maybe the circumfrence of a pencil and in the shape of a spiral, one end floating on the top of the water and spiraling down to the other end of the string at the bottom of the bowel. Sometimes there will be one of these "things', and sometimes there will be three.
Anyone know whats going on?
My GI wants to do a small bowel series, but im not sure thats the right test. He said i dont need a colonoscopy bc i just had one last march.
please advise.... !!!
Love Sara

Hi Sara!!
So nice to see you here!!
yeah its pretty yucky. i'm in several support groups in my area for crohns and celiac and SCD diet groups as well. but things had been going so well until this occurrance that i just didnt know what to do.
i wasnt sure if the small bowel series was the right way to go... if he should be recommending another colonoscopy or upper gi or what.
i am making the appt. for the SBS tomorrow. but i have to get a pg test to make sure im not pg before they do the series.
Hi Sara!
So when is your appointment for the SBS?
My SBS test is on Friday. I will keep everyone posted. I am making my follow up appt. with the GI right away for the following monday -- this coming monday to recieve the results. lets hope something is found and I dont have to go through anymore tests. I would if i had to... but I'm just taking off soooo much time from work for all this on top of neurologists, orthopaedic surgeon, ObGyns, my lawyer etc etc from the car accident. I just HOPE the SBS finds the answer. I'm so exhausted.
=(
