Hi, I'm Kathryn- just started looking at these boards today. I'm feeling better today- I have had 3 rectal surgeries in the past 4 months! 2 for an abscess and 1 for a fistula. The latest surgery was last week, and I'm just starting to feel like this sucker is going to heal! I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis 2 years ago but was informed a month ago that it's Crohn's.

That's my story and I hope you all feel well for the long weekend coming up!

Dear Wren. It has been awhile since we have posted. I have been on my celiac diet now forabout 9-10 weeks. I slipped up badly one week in August, but have been 100percent gf since, at least as far as I can tell. I am fairly sure since I eat mostly fruit (bananas and cantaloupe), vegetables, and unprocessed meat, like roast turkey and chicken; pollock,

hamburger(lowfat); roast beef. I am lactose intolerant. That cuts out alot of foods I'd like to use. Am currently trying mushrooms. Am tempted to get into growing some in my basement . Would get materials from the internet. Don't know if I will really do it. I am still using cider vinegar. My son who visited me this summer says his doctor tells him that cider vinegar is good for lowering cholesterol. My total is on the high side at 260, LDL 178 - high; HDL, 67 good; triglycerides 76, The triglycerides are down from the 2 and 3 hundreds in past years which is very good. I still get the burning pain under my right ribcage, but have more periods of time when the pain is light or almost not there, rather than strong almost all the time. I think the diet is also helping my energy level.Today is not a good example, though. I do have quite strong under ribcage pain this afternoon, but ate an apple crisp type of dessert at Ladies' Guild last night. We scraped the topping off, but possibly some got down into the apple part. Also I don't get along well with apples in any form. The other ladies get disappointed when I don't eat and just visit. They'll just have to get used to my strange ways! Hope your medical problems are not serious, I suspect you tend to downplay them. You are always so quick to comfort the rest of us. Thank you , Wren. Cheers, Ruth
