Gastritis

4 months ago upon returning from Mexico, I woke up in the middle of the night with chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness , and nausea. 4 months later, after an endoscopy I have been diagnosed with gastritis. In the doctor's words "My stomach is pretty messed up." I was on aciphex for 1 month with no improvement. Yesterday, the doctor gave me the results of the endoscopy which showed no pre-cancer or bacterial (H. pylori) problems. The doctor asked if I drank alcohol or used aspirin or ibuprofen. The answer to both questions is no. I don't drink and I very rarely use iboprofen. I have now been put on Nexium for 1 month until I go back and see the doctor again. Couple of questions:

1. Has anyone else been dignosed with gastritis and not know the cause? Can parasites cause gastritis?

2. How long until you felt better after treatment?

I am tired of the bloating, gas, feeling of fullness, chest pain, etc!!

Thank you!

Hi and Welcome, superozzo,
Are you keeping a food diary of what you are eating?

Thanks for the response. My diet:

Breakfast: oatmeal during the week, mini-wheats on the weekend

Lunch: Chicken, turkey, or salad most days

Dinner: Rice, steamed veggies, beef, pasta, or chicken

Dessert: Popcorn

I very rarely eat anything fried. When I cook meat it is either broiled or BBQ'd. Blood test was taken and everything was normal. I also take a vitamin and omega 3&6 fatty acid supplement. No other medications.

I do milk with cereal only twice a week. Otherwise I don't have any. Very little fruit in my diet. Banana's if anything. I have had constant pain in the area below the sternum for four months now. The doctor just said the lining is messed up. He says it will heal on the nexium and that the aciphex may not have worked because its not the right drug for me. I have noticed yellow stools, hard then loose, the last two days also. Side effect of nexium?
