Hemorrhoid and constipation!

Hello, I am looking for some advice. For the past month I have had a hemorrhoid and unfortunately just do not go away on it's own! It's an internal one, it hurts when I first initiate a BM. Sometimes there is no blood, or just a bit. One time when it had been several days since I went I had some bright red blood. I'm not regular, I can go from everyday to 3 or 4 days passing before a BM. I'm thinking that I need more fiber to keep me going, because constipation certainly can't be good for a hemorrhoid. I bought some benefiber tablets in a addition to my dietary fiber. I'm also considering taking a stool softner, like colace. I know it is bad to take laxatives on a daily basis, but colace isn't harmful is it? I also finally bought some cream to help with itching and some witch hazel wipes. I'm a nurse and I'm 23 and I can't believe I am dealing with a hemorrhoid!!!

Please advise~ Thanks, Jen

Edited to ask - Once you have a hemorrhoid do you always have it or will it resolve completely? I know there is an procedure to remove it if it is really bad and I do not want it to go that far!!!

min2003, I think I have had a hemorroid, get a touch of blood on t paper, but very seldom. I do have trouble initiating a stool, quite alot lately. I take a fingerful of vaseline on tpaper(wrapped around my finger) and insert my finger into my anus. That helps ease things. Seveal years ago my doctor said not to take Colace on a regular basis, but lately he says it is okay. I don't like to use it really often because it seems to cause my bowel to overreact. I have been using 1 tablespoon of Milk of Magnesia at bed time lately with good results. At least I am going every day, but actually too frequently. I use a Magnesium tab with breakfast also, probably need to stop using one or the other. Hope this helps, Ruth

Hey Jen. I've been battling a problem myself the last couple of months. Symptons sound similar; pain when the stool first passes and blood maybe twice. I did check with my doctor and she didn't see a hemorrhoid. Okay...that took me by surprise. In two week I have to go back for a flexible sigmoidoscopy so she can take a better look. Of course I am now stressed out, which I don't think helps matters any. She did recommend taking 2 FiberCon tablets a day. This has helped make the stools softer. And I eat Oatmeal every morning for breakfast and drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. I will let you know what my diagnosis is in about three weeks. Good luck. Bailey
