Ok ladies-- i need some advice

I had a Laprascopic GB removal on August 4th 2004. Before i had my stitches removed i had these large bumps underneath my incisions in the middle of the incision itself. I could feel them and they did hurt. Dr said it was just the incisions reacting to my stitches. Stitches were removed and bumps remained for a couple of weeks longer-- i was out of work for a full month-- Ive been back at work since September with a pretty strenuous job with a ton of heavy lifting and all. I came home last nite after working lazily for the last two days with some intermittent lifting ( my boss was out of town :) ) A very tender bump has developed almost overnite in my breastbone area incision. My bra is rubbing against it and its very very tender. The bump isnt large its very small compared to what it was when my stitches were in. I am leaving for out of town in the morning for the week. There is NO way i can make it to my dr until possibly friday. Does this sound like something that needs to be taken care of asap? Anyone had anything like this happen before?

Thanks sooo much

Amity

Hi Amity - I don't think it sounds urgent - but I've never had that happen and I'm not a medical professional. Can you talk to someone on the phone at your doctor's office on Monday to see if they can give you some direction (ie. do you need to go in right away - or wait till Fri apt?)

My thought is that if there are no other symptoms present (ie. nausea, vomiting, diahrea, lethargy, discharge from the area) then it's okay to wait.

I had my gb out Feb / 04 and that was the incision that was worst for me also. I started to take belly dance class again this fall and after my first class that incision area felt a bit sore (it went away in 2 days).

Please post again to let us know how things turn out - there will always be someone else who can learn from your experience,

Jo

It is possibly just being caused by your bra rubbing and pressing on it/against it. Try putting several gauze pads folded to form a thick padding under your bra at that area. If it helps and the bump goes away, then you will know that it is caused by the bra rubbing it and pressing on it. It the area of skin is a little raw from being rubbed add a little neosporin before putting the pad down.

The time to be real concerned is if it is very tender and overly warm to the touch, as that can be a sign of infection. As long as you don't feel fever in the bump and the skin directly adjacent to it you should be okay till you can get in to your dr.
