I had my GB out lap in Feb/04. Since then I've been experiencing 'phantom pain'. I see my Dr every 3 months to monitor my lupus and have always mentioned it to him and he didn't think it a worry. Bood work is done at each visit & there has been nothing in the results to cause him concern.
Last month (3 wks ago) I had a bad stomach flu for 3 days. My regular dr visit was the following week. I was still a bit queezy from the flu and told the Dr that my upper right quadrant was very sore even though I was basically eating apple sauce, soup and bananas. (very very low in fat and it was fat that triggered the pains in the past). The blood tests showed that my liver enzymes (ALT and AST) were both higher than normal. (If you want #s let me know ). Other tests show that my lupus is slightly more active. On the plus side the tests for cholesterol were normal and celiac disease negataive.
The liver tests could mean any one of the following:
1. had a 'bad liver day' (I've had that before where I get wacky resluts and when they re-do the test it's normal)
2. the liver is inflamed due to lupus (Lupus attacks different parts of the body - could be targeting the liver this time)
3. the liver is inflamed due to some other cause.
My Dr is very good about not chalking every symptom up to lupus. The plan is to monitor symptoms and re-check blood work in 6 weeks. I'm going to start recording my food on www.fitday.com again so I can get a real good idea of how much (or how little) fat I really am consuming.
I'll be seeing my naturopath one day next week to see what he has to offer.
Just thought I'd share - and a good example of why it's important not to brush something off as a 'phantom pain' - it could be an indication that something else is going on.
Thanks for listening - and any input on liver stuff would be welcome & appreciated,
Jo
