Any advice?

Hi Everyone. I came on this board to see what experiences other people with digestive problems might have. I noticed primarosa's post and can empathize with her. My reply (#4...though a bit winded) explains my situation. If anyone has any advice to give pertaining to Celiac disease or any other relatively unknown condition, please let me know. The fact that I've isolated certain foods as triggers is great but I still need to deal with the tiredness. One thing I did not mention inmy reply to primarosa is that for over a month now, I have had a different pain in my abdomen. It was barely noticeable at first and so I ignored it but if I had to describe it, (only women will be able to relate to this) it's as though I have had one on-going perma-cramp (menstrual) that never peaks but is just, well, there. I plan on visiting a doctor in the New Year but I've become a little concerned. I don't know if this is isolated from the food allergies and the sleeping or if it is an indication of something else. Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks!

Hi Kitten Little,

Welcome!

You said your post was a bit winded? LOL I'm just teasing you. I'm glad you posted. I will try to help but I don't know much.

There is a blood test your doc can run to see if you're gluten intolerant. I also understand it isn't always reliable. They can also do a biopsy of the small intestines to specificly test for Celiac Disease. There is gluten hidden in so many things. If you believe you have this, you might want to talk to your doc and N about this. In the mean time I believe there is information on the ibsforyou.com web site about celiac and the diet changes you have to make. I would give you a link but, I don't know how.

Hope this helps a little.

Love,

Jamie

Just checked the IBS for you web sight and they don't have celiac info listed there. Sorry to steer you wrong. They do have celiac friendly recipes listed though.

Good Luck.

Jamie

Hi Lynn!

I am so sorry to hear you are afflicted with this condition. What a terrible way to have to live--all the best foods seem to have wheat in them :O( I hope this isn't what is affecting me but I have to wonder--around the holidays, I eat more goodies then I do throughout the rest of the year because they are everywhere and I have little self-discipline. I know the effects but when I'm eating the bread or cake or cookies, I don't care. So the last few weeks have been somewhat miserable for me because everything is out of order and seems to hurt. Yesterday I was good--no grains whatsoever and so today I'm feeling pretty good. I was surprised to read about the skin issues associated with Celiac. Since I was fairly young, I've had what we assumed was psorriasis on the sides of my head, ears and hips. It's gotten worse over the years--though fortunately, it's always been in areas where I can hide it relatively easily. I'm worried about what I read on the increased rate of cancer. Of course it still could be something else... I guess I'll make an appt. and see what my doctor has to say. I wonder if he even knows about this? Thanks to you and all others who replied to me. It makes me feel better to know there is someone out there who will listen. I wish all of you the best in life :O)
