Hi. i am new to this but thought maybe it would help. I have suffered from ibs for years and recently diagnosed with Gastroparesis...but don't have diabetes. I tried reglan to help with the muscle contractions and lessen pain/constipation but hated teh medicine. I can't eat b/c im full all the time and it hurts. Small meals make me full for hours. Has anyone heard of this disease and can offer solution or advice? i am having abdominal pain and severe constipation... any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Thank you for the advice. I am drinkingplenty of water and trying to eat small amounts. But its difficult b/c of the fullness and pain. I will talk to the doctor on tuesday but until then its very uncomfortable. I have used stool softeners in the past but with the diagnosis i dont know if this is harmful. I will check mayoclinic for answers. It is frustrating to have to wait for doctors when you are not feeling well.

Hope you are having a good holiday and keeping well.

Hi,

Sorry to hear you're in so much pain...Boy do I understand pain and not being able to eat.

Have you tried Heathers diet at www.helpforibs.com. I realize your problem is not IBS but she has a section called what to eat when you can't eat anything else. I had to live on this for 8 weeks but, it's got me through. I also have found when I can't get anything else in me I am able to drink Citrucel (don't know if it will work but worth a try to keep you moving). I find this fiber doesn't give me gas either.

That said...I found a great site that talks about gastroparesis. http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/ I searched for diabetic gastroparesis and it had tons of info on gastroparesis in the first article that comes up. There is an explanation of the disease, diagrams etc. Hope it helps - oh...almost forgot it's the Johns Hopkins web site.

I too have diabetes and have been told I have IBSC. Will be seeing my gastro on tuesday too and you can believe I'm going to ask about this. Thank you for posting.

Love to you,

Jamie

Thank you all for the advice. I will check out the websites.. i have already read almost every site out there for this condition so far too. I dont have diabetes which is usually the cause of this. I am thinking maybe there is an underlying condition or something else causing this. I eat the fiber and water but it feels like the stomach muscles and bowels dont do anything with it once it has entered my system. It just sits. Liquid is much easier, are there any good liquid nutrition drinks you'd recommend.. with all the nutrients and stuff i am missing from the food? That would be helpful.

Thanks again for the help. - D

D-

I have not used any meal replacements - mostly because I am lactose intollerent and have been too sick and tired to look for a lactose free one. I can tell you on one of my IBS sights several people use ensure when they get bad...just a thought.

Jamie

Thanks for the sites jaime.. the hopkins one was very informative. What is IBSC? is that different than IBS? My doctor said to try milk of magnesia for the constipation which i will try. I have an appt. with him tomorrow and have so much to discuss with him. hopefully he will give me good news. I am thinking the gastroparesis is an effect of the ibs constipation or block in the bowels ... but i am not a doctor so who knows.

i will keep you posted and you do the same. Thanks.

Hi,

IBSC is IBS with constipation. IBSD is IBS with diareah (How ever you spell it). IBSA is Alternating between the two. I had to ask too.

I hope you get some answers today. I too am seeing my GI today and am going armed with a list of questions. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Love,

Jamie
