Natural remedies for gallstones?

Hello everyone,

My name is Tiffany and I hope you all can help me out here.

I am scheduled to have gallbladder surgery on Feb. 2nd and I am trying to find a reason to cancel it. I googled gallstones and found a couple of sites that tell how to get rid of them "naturally" by using apple juice and olive oil. Anybody heard of it or tried it?

There are several reasons I do not want to have the surgery the biggest being these horrible anxiety attacks I get and are getting worse the closer this date gets here. I am a SAHM to three kids ages 7 to 7 months and have no family around ,ie. no help after the surgery. I also breastfeed the baby. My husband works 10 hr shifts at night so he won't be home to help. I would really like to try an alternative because of all these reasons before going ahead with surgery.

The ultrsound showed a stone almost an inch around. Can that be passed? I only get "attacks" 3 or 4 times a year although there is always this pressure right behind my sternum.

Any advice?

I will have the surgery as a last resort if nothing else works. Thanks for any advice!

Tiffany

Hi Tiffany - welcome to the board.

Below is a link that I posted to a previous inquiry about alternative treatments.

http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-bhgendigesti/?msg=1696.3

That is one big stone you have and if it does make it out of your gall bladder there is a risk that it can block a duct.

Have you talked to your Dr's office about the fact that you have no support available? I'm in Canada and for situations like that they sometimes allow for Home Care (an aid to come out to your home to assist) or Day care for the children.

Does your dh have any vacation time coming - or does his place of work offer paid time of for such situations? Our federal gov't offers 'compassion leave' - in a situation such as yours he would rec'v a portion of his regular salary while off work to care for the family as you recover.

I was only off work a couple of days - but was told not to lift anything greater than 10 lbs for a couple of weeks.

There have been other ladies on the board with young families who have had the surgery - so I'm sure if they are around will be able to offer more practical advice.

Best of luck - and please let us know how you are doing,

Jo

p.s. - your anxiety is totally normal - I know that by knowing that it won't make it any better - but just thought I'd mention it.

That you are uncertain and are having doubts about using this remedy should serve as a red flag to you. Also, since you have confirmed a problem with your gallbladder does exist and considering you do have knowledge pertaining to the size of one stone alone that was found, I personally would hesitate to use any remedy that might place you in danger, and this liver/gallbladder flush could prove very dangerous for you.

Check-out the link concerning GALLBLADDER DISEASE, you'll find some good information regarding treatment options and more for your consideration:

Oh, btw, what does SAHM mean?

Hi Kiki,

It means stay-at-home-mom. I am so used to posting on the May 2004 playgroup board. sorry.

Thanks for the advice from both of you! I am sceptical about the alternative remedies but if there is something safe that I could try before surgery, I would give it a shot!

I also forgot to post that they found them because my liver levels are high and thats why they were doing the ultrasound in the first place. They just happened to see them at that time.
