I had my gallbladder removed 9/30/04, and up until 12/9/04 felt like I was 20 years younger. On the 9th had pains exactly like a gallstone attack, though the pain was greater than any I had before. I ended up in the emergency room, they took blood and gave me a GI cocktail. The pain subsided after five hours, but back again the next morning. I went back to my surgeon, he sent me for a CT scan. It showed everything normal except for a small thickening in my small intestines. I have since had excessive gas, abdominal bloating, some pain and a variety of bowel movements (hard to soft, large to pellet like) but no diarrhea. I am now being sent for a colonoscopy by a GI doctor. I should have asked, but why a colonoscopy since it doesn't look at the small intestines anyway?? For about a week now, I have been almost symptom free, I am considering postponing the colonoscopy. Any one with suggestions??

Please don't cancel the colonoscopy.
Hi Regina001
Welcome to the board.
Thanks Wren and Lynn!
My colonoscopy is scheduled for January 18th. I guess I'm just nervous about it. I had no problem with the surgery, but I'm just a little on edge about the colonoscopy. Plus, I'm tired of doctors scratching their heads, not being able to give me a diagnosis. I know they have to make completely sure, but it's especially frustrating now since I feel well. I know I'm just being a baby, but I want to get it all behind me and move on! I will let you know what the results are. Thanks for being there!

Regina,
Hi Wren,
Thanks again to you and Lynn. I was extremely close to cancelling, despite objections from my family, I guess I needed to hear it from someone else to shake me up a bit. By the way, I'm 45. The reason I'm glad I didn't cancel is that last night I had another bout of loose crampy stools (took about a half an hour to complete) which told me clearly that despite how I feel, there is an issue someplace in my system. Again, I will give you an update when the results come in. Thanks for the push, I really needed it.

Hey Regina,
The prep is the worst part of the colonoscopy.
Hi Wren and Lynn,
I just wanted to touch base with you. I had my colonoscopy today. So far, they haven't found anything significant, they took some tissue samples and I should hear in about a week. Overall, I'm still feeling better, so hopefully I am coming to the end of this ride. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you again for convincing me to go through it. Truthfully, it wasn't that bad. Of course, the prep was not pretty. But I armed myself with lots of magazines, a comfy place to rest near the bathroom and the TV. The procedure today was really nothing. They gave me a sedative and it was over. It's amazing how worked up you can get over something, and only because it's unknown. I will let you know what the results are. Thank you so much for listening.
