I had my gallbladder removed 9/30/04, and up until 12/9/04 felt like I was 20 years younger. On the 9th had pains exactly like a gallstone attack, though the pain was greater than any I had before. I ended up in the emergency room, they took blood and gave me a GI cocktail. The pain subsided after five hours, but back again the next morning. I went back to my surgeon, he sent me for a CT scan. It showed everything normal except for a small thickening in my small intestines. I have since had excessive gas, abdominal bloating, some pain and a variety of bowel movements (hard to soft, large to pellet like) but no diarrhea. I am now being sent for a colonoscopy by a GI doctor. I should have asked, but why a colonoscopy since it doesn't look at the small intestines anyway?? For about a week now, I have been almost symptom free, I am considering postponing the colonoscopy. Any one with suggestions??

Regina,
Glad you made it through ok.
Hi Lynn and Wren,
I just wanted to give you an update. My doctor called this morning with the results of my colonoscopy. No polyps were found, and all tissue samples came back normal! We discussed the fact that my symptoms are gradually improving, so he wants me to work with that (watch my diet, keep a record, etc...) and I will go see him in six weeks. Told me not to worry, everything checked out okay. Whew! I truly learned so many important lessons here, not being afraid of testing was the most important. What happened the day I had that attack, who knows? But let's face it, if you have an organ removed your body needs time to adjust. And everyone is different, and truly everyone's body is a mystery despite how much is known medically.
I can't thank you enough for listening when I needed it and gently coaxing me. You can't imagine how much it made a difference to me, just to call out to someone in "cyberspace" and have them respond with warmth and caring. Please accept "psychic hugs" from me!
Thanks!
Regina

Hi Regina - I'm so glad to hear that all is normal on your recent tests.
Also happy that your symptoms are improving.
Have you noticed a link between the pain and any particular foods?
Take care,
Jo
Hi Jo,
Not yet, but I am keeping a log to see if there are any triggers. Hopefully between now and my appointment I can narrow it down and then discuss it with the doctor.
Thanks!
Regina
