Hi, I was just wondering if there are any other parents or anyone who knows someone with the problems we have had with our 9 year old son. He has had a history of ulcers in his duidium since the age of 5. We have been to several doctors with no explanation for this. He has been tested for Irritable Bowl, Colitis, Food Allergy, he has been tested for just about everything. He just had yet another edoscopy this week (that being his 9th) his ulcer is back and was almost bleeding. We are very frustrated and don't where our next place to turn will be. Other then the ulcers and of course the abdominal pain he has no other symptoms. No wieght lose or gain no vomiting or diahria. The doctor we are seeing now feels that he is allergic to something, but says we will probly never pinpoint it. I can't imagine why it can't be pinpointed. Right now they are treating him with Previced and Singulair (for the allergic reaction). The doctor said once the biopsy is back and he can confirm there is somthing he is allergic to something he will also treat him with a steroid. (which I am not happy about). Although he did say it would only be for 2 to 3 months. Any way if someone has ever heard of this or knows of studies about this somewhere please post a message back. I will really appreciate any help.
Thank you!!

Hi Lynn,
Thank you for your reply. My son had a blood test for celiac but the blood test hadn't been back as of this past Friday. We know it's not Chrons he has been tested for that. If we can't get any answers from the doc we are seeing now we are thinking of going to Shanes Hospital in Gainsville. We get the biopsy back this week. So we are praying for an answer. Thank you for post. I will keep everyone posted.
God Bless,
Connie

i had a million environmental as well as food allergies as a child and was tested at an allergist. I'm certain that there is an allergist in your area that can pinpoint exactly what it is that your son is allergic to. I found out EVERYTHING that I was allergic to and then was given allergy injections to build up an immunity towards those allergens. I'm horribly allergic to shellfish which believe it or not is found in all these new glucousomine vitamins to help with back and joint pains as well as it is also in so iv fluids that the hospitals use. I found out it was in these vitamins by taking one of these and getting horrible stomach pains. Needless to say--it could be as simple as something like that and you just haven't been able to find out what to avoid.

I also have a question for you. My daughter is 8 and has been having horrible stomach pains. Mainly this was happening at night, so I thought it was a case of the I hate school-i-dis. This has been going on for about 2 months now. I took her to the pediatrician last week and she told me to cut back on her intake at dinner and her carbs--she's a big bread eater. She's not the least bit overweight--she hasn't gained any weight or lost any, but the stomach aches are not soothed by anything over the counter. she says it hurts, and feels like she's going to be sick. How did you know your son had ulcers?? My mother in law suggested that it could be this??

Thanks for your insight!!
Best of luck with your son--let me know what they say--or what others have said to help

Hi Dellegrzie,
My son started with stomachs at night at the age of three, He would cry so hard I couldn't calm him down. The pediatrician kept telling us it was growing pains. (we no longer see that group of docs) When he was five we took him to a gastro doc and that was who found the ulcer. He did an endoscopy put him on prevecid did another endo 6 months later and still had the ulcer. We finally took him to Miami Childrens Hospital and they got the ulcer healed but still could find no cause for it. We got tired of driving an hour and a half down there. So we changed docs to one closer. He was oaky for about 1 year with the ulcer healed, now for some reason it is back. We are on our 4th pediatric gastro and praying we can find answers. If we are not happy with this ones answers we are considering The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. If your daughter is having a problem at school it could be the cause of it. I went through that with my 6 year old daughter she didn't want to go to school. And you always want to believe your children. But if she keeps it up I would find a good pediatric gasto. 6 months is a long time for her to keep up a fib. Post back and let me know how she is.
Good Luck,
Connie
