Colon Resection Surgery for Diverticula

hi, this is Crystal Clear,
Just got out of the hospital yesterday, my sons were happy to have me around again even though they are self reliant. DH very happy to have me back. They took out what appears to be my sigmoid colon and part of my desecending colon. Was in the hospital for 6 days.
Can tell you all about the whole experience if any needs to know about an experience of this surgery.

I am still havin the sharp pains and when I sit down I can feel my butt right through to my stomach. Going for BMs is a very uncomfortable experience that I do not look forward to. I don't understand what is going on or if this is normal. At times I notice traces of blood in my bms. I have started to wear an ace elastic bandage around my lower waist to help with the feeling of weakness in my stomach. Is this normal?

Crystal,
You might be having trace amounts of blood in your stool from healing from the surgery, but I would think by now it would be healed to where there would be no blood for the human eye to see.
thanks for the info, I'm still the same person I was before my surgery in that I never went to the doctor for 5 days during my initial attack of diverticulitis, I am always convinced that they won't find anything wrong and it is all in my head (which it wasn't, it was an absess and micorperferation in my colon). I dunno I guess if it gets really unbearble I will talk to my doc but I hate bugging them about "pain".
I took off the sterile stips on 3 of my small incisions and had a look at them, not too bad, one looks like and X not a - like the other two, maybe they needed more room.
I did mention that my colon gave me more trouble during "that time" and from my research it appears it may have been caused by adhesions from previous surgery, I will have to ask my doc and watch for difference during the next"time".
I am very bad for not getting stomach things checked out, although the thought of ever having a colostomy keeps me from being too stupid.
Does anyone else have difficulty asking for and seeking medical advice cause they don't want to be seen as a baby?
For me,
Hey Crystal_clear!
I think alot of us feel the way you feel.

Maybe that's my body telling me to slow down. Dunno. It seems to me that I just dont' know my body anymore. Went shopping tonight and found myself getting a sharp pain after trying on some clothes, so what is that all about?
I have some clear, fine fishing line sticking out of a couple of my incicision spots. Should I pull them out or leave them alone?
Maybe I think I should be 100% by now and am surprised when my body says it's not.
Crystal
Hey Crystal,
Just remember, everyone is different and those who supposedly speed through colon resection surgery I often wonder about.
