Gall Stones and Pregnancy

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this. When I was pregnant with my first, I had 3 identical attacks, but didn't know what they were. Pain was slight in my upper right quadrant, severe in my upper back, under my shoulder blades (worse than labor pain). Followed by a bout 3 hours of vomiting and then I was ok.
I never had anything like that before or after pregnancy.
Well - I just had another attack like that with my second pregnancy. I called my doctor, but kinda got blown off by the nurse. I could force myself in, but will be there soon anyway to talk to him about it.
In the meantime - what should I know? Foods to avoid? Anything else I can do?
Amy

Hi and welcome
Hi Amy - Below is a link to another message board where the same questions was presented to a dietician. (along with my comments based on my own experience)

There is a 'home remedy' posted on a number of sites suggesting that you drink a mixture of olive oil and lemon juice. Don't do this! both the lemon juice and olive oil stimulate contractions in the gallbadder - and that is what causes pain. In moderation they are fine (ie. if you are making soup and fry the onions in a tbs of olive oil first - or making a dish that calls for a tbs of lemon juice - but I wouldn't suggest going out of your way to consume it)
Hope that helps settle things down for you - please let us know how you are doing,
Jo

Thank you so much for your quick reply - I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Since the attack is gone, I feel much better. And I happened to be talking to someone about it and she had the exact same thing during pregnancy. It was nice to empathize with someone who knows how much pain it is.
She does a low fat diet, watches what she eats and has been ok. But they did recommend gall bladder removal in the long run. I'm going to talk to my doctor about it at my next visit. I would like to avoid removal while I'm pregnant, so I'm just going to try to keep my diet low fat for now!
Thank you again!
Amy
Just Be careful with what you eat.
