Please help. blood in stool?!?

(SORRY SO LONG!) This is totally embarassing to talk about, but I'm a little concerned and want to get another point of view before I freak out about it. I've noticed a couple of times in the past couple weeks some dark reddish lines embedded in some stool. I have a history of IBS and anal fissures, so I'm not new to intestinal issues, but I don't think I have a fissure now, and still I'm seeing red. I'm just really concerned because my husband and I are planning to start trying for our first baby in about a month, and I just want to make sure everything is all okay. I have recently changed my diet a little, adding in lots of milk and fruits and vegetables, so I thought maybe that is it. Those diet changes caused me to be a little more gassy than usual at first, but that seems to have subsided. For the first time in forever I'm having regular bowel movements (I'm usually all stopped up due to IBS) because of the fruits and veggies, but now I'm worried something else is wrong. I'm only 26, so isn't it a little early to be concerned about colon cancer. I have my preconception visit next week. Is this something an OB/GYN would even be able to comment on? THANKS!

Thanks, Wren. I think I'm going to go to the walk-in clinic where I used to see a doctor tomorrow after work. I don't want to stress over nothing all weekend. Mostly I"m upset because we finally decided to take the plunge and try to have a baby, and I just don't want anything to interfere with that. For now, my husband let me rent a silly movie (Shrek 2) to escape reality and will probably accompany me to the dr. tomorrow. Thanks so much for your support! I'll keep ya poste.

Thanks for your concern. Fortunately, it is just a fissure. My doc gave me a prescription and I should be on my way to recovery soon. Thanks again!
