Anyone Know?

Does anyone know if going number 2 frequently can affect how well the contraceptive pill works?
I've had Irritable Bowel Syndrome for six months or so and as a result am in the toilet 3/4 times every morning.
I've always taken my pill in the mornings, and I know that being sick or having diarrhea
can affect it, so should I be using another method of contraception as well??

Any advice greatly appreciated!

I've had the i.b.s for seven months or so now, but only found out what was wrong with me two months ago. Unknown to me, the stress of worrying what was wrong with me was making it much worse!
I don't drink much coffee, I only have one in the morning, and that's after my stomach calms down.
The pain has eased alot since I found out that's what it was, but it's still driving me mad every day. I don't really know what to do about it, all I was told was to have more fibre and fruit.

Hi Lisa,

There's a great book out called Eating for IBS by Heather Van Vorous and also The first Year IBS.

Hi Lynn,
Thanks for such a detailed reply. I shall check out my local library for those books.
It seems that everything I enjoy triggers me! Mainly fatty foods like fries and bacon, curries and dairy products like yogurt and cheese. Also I've noticed that a evening bingeing on junk food does me in! I seem to suffer a bit regardless though.

I think stress is quite a big factor for me, my b/f and I row a bit, and we have a two year old, so I do get a bit stressed! I'm working on that at the moment, trying to make sure I get time to myself so I don't get stressed so quick.

I didn't know there were any medications that would help, I shall pay my doctor a visit soon but in the mean time I will include some of the foods you mentioned in my diet.

I was having alot of stomach pain before I found out what was wrong, and I know the stress was making it worse, but what exactly was causing the pain? How come it's gone away? Not that I mind!!

I was also having bleeding between periods while I was having pains, but that's stopped now, and the gyn says alls fine, so was the bleeding related to the I.B.S?

What could have caused it in the beginning? Is it just one of those things?

I think that's all the questions I have for now.
Thanks alot,
Lisa. XxX

HI Lisa,

There should be no blood at all with IBS.

Hiya Lynn,
My doctor hasn't run any as yet. What happened was that I was having bad cramps and vaginal bleeding between periods, so I went to my local Well Woman Clinic. The doctor there examined me, internal and pelvic. Found some swelling of my uterus, sent me back to my doctor so he could refer me to the gynaecologist for further tests.
Attend my appointment at the hospital (six months later!!), the gynaecologist examined me, said everything was healthy in that respect and told me I had IBS.Then all I got was leaflet, and that was that, so all the info you've given me has been a great help.
The thing you said about grievious insult to the gut may ring true with me. I had a baby by c-section 2 years ago so maybe that's a possible reason.
I've been feeling ok the last few days, not quite as many trips to the toilet. It's not very nice when you have a two year old (My son) watching!!
I'm keeping a record of the things that irritate me, so I should be able to avoid them. It just seems all the foods I enjoy don't like me!!

Thanks alot for all your help.
