hi new to this site and after some advice please. I am 43, fairly active and mostly healthy. Due to my sister having recently been diagnosed with pre-cancerous polyps on her bowel walls i had to be screened myself. The first procedure colonoscopy did not work. Today i had a barium enema. Although full results will come later i was told that i have a very long bowel. I have always had a slow digestive system, suffered IBS type symptoms etc. Two years ago i went 'wheat free' which has helped no end and i would never go back to eating wheat again! Anyone else have this problem? Are there anyother foods i should avoid. My husband keeps nagging me to eat more fiber but i think that is the last thing i need!

I hate to say this but your husband might be right. When we cut out wheat we need to be careful to still consume enough fiber.
The USDA recommended minimum fiber intake for adults is 25 to 35 grams daily, and soluble fiber should account for one third to one half of this total amount. Some scientists actually recommend up to 60 grams of fiber a day, so the USDA recommendations are not maximum dosage limitations. The typical American eats only a meager 10-15 grams of fiber daily. For comparison, the average fiber intake in China is 33 grams of fiber a day, and it ranges as high as 77 grams per day in some regions.
If you have IBS like symptoms it's another indiction you need fiber. Fiber helps regulate your bowel even if you have a problem with D. I don't know about the other fibers but I know that citrucel is gluten free. I have celiac and take it everyday. I called the company because it said gluten free on the label and they confirmed it. The orange sugarfree powder tastes like tang and is smooth.
I have another thought...If you feel better being wheat free have you tried going Gluten free. That means no wheat, barley, rye or oats? You might feel even better...Just a thought. Have you been tested for gluten intolerence or did you just decide to go wheat free on your own? You might want to be tested before you go gluten free because you have to be consuming gluten when you have it. That is if you decide to go that way. I want to commend you for going wheat free and sticking to it. It's not easy even with a positive test result.
