Food won't go down-help!

Hi, I have posted this over at the GERD BB, but I need some feedback! I am SO uncomfortable. I can't hardly eat a thing without feeling like it's stuck in my throat/chest. Here is what I posted there:

"I had a endoscopy done yesterday, the DR walked over, gave a vague "didn't see anything to be concerned about, no ulcers or errosion, everything looked good". Ok, so i asked her what about the choking feeling I had. She said we may need to do further tests. She took biopsies I guess to test for bacteria (H.Pylori I'm guessing) and to rule out any cancer (I know it's a normal test, not worried). I guess she didn't see a need to dialate my esophagus. But didn't mention seeing, or not seeing a hiatal hernia (but assuming by her saying everything looked fine, I guess she didn't). Or is can they not detect a hiatal hernia doing a endoscopy? I'm still on my meds (Prevacid 2x's a day) and do not have heartburn, but am still choking on my food.

Tonight I ate 2 wedges of a quesidilla and a few nachos (and a bite on my DH's sandwich). Definately not a dinner, more like what most people would eat for a appetizer. I drank water, no soda with dinner. And now I am suffering big time! I feel like my food is coming up my sinuses. Now, maybe what I ate is not on the reflux diet, but i don't really feel like this is acid reflux, it's more my food won't go down into my stomach feeling. My stomach feels empty.

So I guess I'm asking if maybe they didn't/can't detect a hiatal hernia during a endoscopy and that is a possibility of what is wrong. I hate this, I can't eat anymore!!!! "

-adding this: What the heck is causing this that the DR didn't see? Or feel the need to say to me the day of my scope? I called and left a message that I am having trouble swallowing my food still. She is out of the office until Friday. I am just going to stop eating solid food until I get this straightened out, because I suffer for hours after eating.

Hey Erin...

I don't know what the heck is happening but can you get your PCM to refer you to someone else so you can get a second opinion?

Hey, funny seeing you here!

The thing is, they sent me out to a civilian specialist because they didn't have a available GI at Malcom Grow AF Base, where my PCM is. I called the DR who did my endo and she wont' be back until Friday. And I know this is not life or death, but I can't eat much and I'm hungry! I'll get so hungry that I'll just say screw it and eat, then suffer for hours. I've been eating lots of ice cream, but it's just not enough (yes, ice cream is not enough!). We have friends (the people we went to the ball with). They are both AF Med Core who know lots of people in the system, I just didn't want to bother them. But I might tomorrow. I've been brushed off so much by military doctors, they just waste my time because they don't know what to do. They're Family Practice, they deal with colds and yeast infections, not real problems. They have been handing me medicine for this and shoving me out the door for a year now. I finally am able to see a civilian specialist, who is now on a vacation or something, but there is also the possiblity that I can't go back because I only got approved for two visits.

I'm just hoping I wake up tomorrow and everything will be fine.

Arrrghh!!! THIS SUCKS! (sorry).

if you have reflux, eating spicy foods like quesdillas and nachos aren't going to help at all!!

My Doctor and my Aunt (who had her gallbladder out a few months ago) and several others with gallbladder problems have all told me to stay away from spicy food. they said it irritates it. and whenever i've eaten spicy food, i've had a gallbladder attack from it.

Hi. I am not a DR., but I have been through all the tests when I had these symptoms years ago. My DR. even sent me to a DR. friend in NYC to have a better group of tests done.

He never really did give me a "for sure answer". Was told to avoid coffee, tomato sauce, blah, blah, blah. He put me on Zantac first (could not purchase OTC at that time), then Prilosec, now Nexium. Two Nexium a day keeps me OKay, doing this for several years.
I have determined that when I get stressed, this kicks in (swallowing problems and burning pain, taste, etc.) I have learned to live with it. I supplement with 400mg of SAM-E for mood control (help with some beginning arthisis too). This helps alot. Been great for three years.

Seems like stress produces the extra acid, and it takes a while to settle down.
Hope this helps. Don't freak out like I did, makes things worse. My Dr. still can't belive he didn't conclude an anwer, he is one of the best in the area, NY schools, etc. (He'll get over it!!, LOL)
Good luck, Suz
