Gallbladder problems since last year

I've been sick for what seems like FOREVER!! Last Septmeber I had a severe UTI and while I had that the Dr discovered I had H. pylori. I finally got rid of that right around Thanksgiving. I started feeling better for a week and than began to get sick again.
Ever since then I have had bad pain in my stomach, and i'm nauseated EVERY SINGLE DAY, some days its horrible, some days its bearable. I had an ultrasound which revealed a polyp on my gallbladder (which i have named "George" ") ) but the Dr said it wasn't cancerous. I have since had a Cat Scan of my Abdomin and it turned out fine. She said there was nothing else wrong with me, no thickening of the gallbladder walls or anything. She put me on some stomach medicine and said if i don't feel better in three months we'll see if my gallbladder is functioning correctly.
I'm a senior in college and work two jobs, I CANNOT go on like this being miserable everyday and missing things I am supposed to be at!
I was thinking about having my gallbladder removed over Spring break. if I had it out on the friday beforehand do you think i would be back to work in a week?
I'm calling my Dr tomorrow to make an apt to discuss my options. I am certain its my gallbladder, (runs in the family) and i really don't want to have to go and take any tests, esp that two hour one where they put the stuff in that goes to your liver first. forget what its called. its hard enough to get into the dr with my schedule, much less take the day off from work!!
HELP!!!

I agree with Wren. I would have all the testing done before having your gallbladder removed. I'm sure you wouldn't want to have your GB removed and then find out that is not the cause of your problems!
I have a thickened GB wall with lots of polyps but the surgeon doesn't want to remove it yet, so I am scheduled for a endoscopy on the 8th of Feb.
I have had the Hida Scan done(I think that's what your referring to as the 2 hour test)and it came back my GB is functioning normal. It's not that bad...the worst part is laying there for 1 1/2 hours with nothing to do!

Thanks
hida scan, yes thats what i was talking about:) couldn't remember the name!
well if it isn't my gallbladder then i am at a loss as to what in the tarnation is wrong with me. I'm having the exact same symptoms as my aunt, and all of the gallbladder things i have researched on the net.
Man i just want to feel good again and not be sick everyday!
Hi there....just jumping in with my 2 cents! I agree with the others! I would not go ahead with surgery unless it was absolutely necessary! Not only could you end up still sick if it turns out it wasn't even a gall bladder problem, but you face the risks of surgery. While gall bladder removal is fairly straight forward in most cases there are some significant risks associated with it. I had mine out last week and it took me a full week to feel well again ( although I have problems with a bile duct blockage now ).Having all the recommended tests while annoying is really what you need to do. I'd also be surprised if a dr would do the surgery without knowing if it was really needed.
Anyhow I hope you find an answer to your problems. What you are going through sounds awful.
Lisa.
Hi - and welcome to the board. I read the responses yesterday - and great information. Forgive me if I repeat something that's all ready been said.
If the gb isn't the problem according to the doctors (ie. no thickening of the walls, no evidnece of stones) then having it removed won't solve the problem.
I had mine out Feb/04 and have to be very cautious about what I eat and how I eat. If I wait too long between meals I end up with pain & nausea, if I eat processed food (ie. deli food, bottled salad dressings - even low-fat types, heat and serve dinners, or anything in a box) or consume to many calories from fat I become nauseated and sometimes experience discomfort. I don't even bother eating meat, eggs and really try to avoid dairy. I'm currently awaiting results from an ultrasound that they did in Dec/04 to see if there are some stones. However the dr told me that there may well be stones in there and they may not show up on an ultrasound. I'll find out Tuesday at the apt.
Below is a link to a tread at another board with advice from a dietician. Note that in my response to the tread below I mention 'phantom pains' - that's what they kept telling me back in August - it wasn't till December and I'd lost another 5 lbs that they decided that they should investigate the cause of these pains.

Question here Jo
Hi Wren - I'm maintaining.
I'm 5'5" my wt before all this began was about 130 - 135.
Aug 03 Acute GB attack & surgery was recommended. I changed my eating habits at this point.
When I had my surgery Feb/04 I was 120 lbs
I lost a bit after surgery - but gained it back was pretty steady at about 123ish.
When I saw my doctor in December I was 116.
My scale at home is pretty accurate and according to it I was 119 the other morning.
I don't eat properly - I know that. If I didn't drink soft drinks and juice (empty calories) then I think my weight would be down. Sugar doesn't seem to cause pain/discomfort (unfortunately!)
