Had ERCP today
| Tue, 02-08-2005 - 11:18pm |
I haven't talked to the doc yet... will see him at my follow up tomorrow but he came out to talk to my husband after finishing the procedure and told him that he removed a few stones and had to make a larger incision in there somewhere. Will ask about that tomorrow.
But anyways, I'm fine. A little sore throat and some heartburn sensation but that's all. I'm just glad it is done. Now if I can avoid it happening again next year... :)

Went to my follow up and the doctor explained that I had one really large stone. He had to open up the sphincterotomy from the last ERCP and use a basket to pull the stone out Owie.
Anyways I am doing fine and hope to not go through this again for awhile. He did say there was a prescription I could take... Antigal? He said it is more specifically for shrinking a single gall stone but it could possibly be useful as a preventative in my case. He did say that there is no guarantee that it will help so it is up to me. I will have to research it more first and then decide.

Thanks Tearose for letting Us know how you made out..
Did the doctor give you a dietary list to watch out for certain things ?
Hi Jill -
Do they know if the stones they found were ones that they missed during the GB surgery - or are they ones that have developed since the surgery?
I hope you are feeling well again soon.
Jo
Thank you both. Nope, he didn't have any advice on diet. Said I was clear to eat anything I wanted. I am on Weight Watchers so I am sticking to low fat anyway. ;)
He said it is quite possible that the stone was a piece that was missed during my first ERCP but there is no way to know for sure. I am thinking it probably was.
Just real glad its over with. Now hopefully I can avoid this scenario for awhile. :)

The test is pretty simple really. They knocked me out with Demerol/Vicodin which took a matter of seconds. When I woke up in recovery, I was very out of it but felt fine. Just left with a sore throat and some slight discomfort in my upper right quadrant. Normally there really isn't any pain involved there but they had to do some cutting around the stone because it was so large. I'm shocked the stone didn't cause me more health problems like the jaundice.
I think it is a great test. It allows them to diagnose and treat at the same time in most cases. I have no concerns of having it done again if I should have to. Hopefully I won't have to deal with anymore stones for awhile but the ERCP is honestly no big deal to me. ;)

Thank You
Hi
I'm so glad to have found your post!
I had an open gallbladder surgery last summer and it was absolutely awful. Now, I'm just nervous about it happening again, minus the gallbladder itself of course.
Now did you have gallbladder surgery and THEN this procedure, or do you still have your gallbladder?
What prompted you to go to the doctor in the first place in order to have the ERCP procedure? What symptoms did you have? Were they severe or mild?
Thanks!
