Weight loss after gallbladder removal?
| Tue, 03-08-2005 - 12:05am |
Hi, I've never posted a message before. I'm having pain after eat among other things and my medical doctor says it may be my gallbladder. I'm scheduled for an ultrasound this week.
I've talked to several people that have had surgery. One of them mentioned weight loss after surgery. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks your time.

Well

Hi Misty - the weight loss is a result of eating fewer calories. That's about it.
Sometimes people see something like GB disease as a wake up call to pay more attention to what they are eating. You can still develop gallstones after the GB is removed - so if you have stones now - having the GB removed isn't a 'get out of jail free' card. If you grew them once - you can grow them again.
So - once diagnosed w/ gb disease the recomendations are a low fat diet - and avoiding processed food / fatty fast foods / etc. By changing to a healthier way of eating there is often a reduction in the # of calories consumed which would result in weight loss.

Jo
Hey there,
I had my gallbladder removed a year ago and have only had troubles ever since. I have what I call "bile attacks", it seems my body excretes the extra bile. I also have very freqeunt diarreah and lots of trouble digesting. I am losing weight but due to other problems.
Good luck
