Please ...I need some advise. I recently had a baby born by c-section on February 25, 2005. About 2 weeks before my son was born I noticed a change in the taste of food. I had a lot of trouble eating as cheese tasted like mold...meat tasted like it had gone bad..even bread had a slight moldy taste to it.
Now 3 weeks after my son's birth I am getting depressed that this condition has not gone away. I can hardly eat and I am not enjoying food at all. I know this is not healthy for my baby either...after all what I eat he eats and lately all I seem to be able to enjoy eating is junky food...not because I want to ..but I can't eat anything else.
Now I do have a theory ..but I don't know if it is correct or how to allieviate it if it is true. During my entire pregnacy I sufferered extreme heartburn and I probably ate about 100 rolaids or tums in a two week period..throughout the entire nine months. Could I have screwed up my taste buds or something else? My doctor told me that it was fine if I had to eat that many. Is this maybe just hormornes? Could it be permanent?
I have asked my family doctor and wasn't given a real answer..more just if it doesn't go away come see me again. My OB/GyN can't see me untill my 6 week appt.
Please, please ...I want to eat real food....can someone out there help me?!!!!
Any advise would be appreciated
Thank you
Cathy

Hi and Welcome
HI Cathy!
I have to agree with what Wren has said.
Thank you Ladies for all your advise. I'm tending to believe it is my hormones as well. I have been trying to find other foods that are fairly nutrious to eat...cereal for example...I can still eat fruit and veggies..bread..etc. I am just really missing not being able to eat cheese or to sit down with a big steak..lol. Who knows maybe my lifestyle and eating habits will just become healthier.
I am still breastfeeding but am supplimenting with formula on the days food tastes really bad. Baby is growing like a weed so I must be putting something healthy in me. By the way we named him Andreas Giovanni (my husband is italian).
Thank you again for your help ...I appreciated it very much
Take care
Cathy
