I have been fighting with abdominal pain for over a year now. I get sharp pains in my sides and stomach and sometimes chest. They did an ultrasound and found gallbladder sludge, but no stones. I went to a specialist and he thinks it is irratable bowel--but this makes no sense to me b/c i have no bowel problems. everything is normal--no diarhea or constipation, no gas or bloating and no cramping. just sharp pains every once in a while that get so severe that they have landed me in the ER twice! i have had everything else tested pretty much--kidneys, ovaries, i have had upper GI done, but no lower GI have had numerous x-rays and one ultrasound--everything normal except small about of GB sludge. My Dr. does not think that is could be gallbladder disease and keeps insisting it is IBS--are there tests they can do to prove either one?

Yes, coffee is a nasty little culprit that can wreck havoc and unfortunately for me that had it in my hand at all times of the day drinking it black it was a very hard habit to kick especially since I had to give up caffeine and all coffee...so no decaf versions of coffee either. However, as a result I had to begint o pay more attention to what my body needed as a whole, which included enough sleep since I couldn't throw a cup of coffee down me in the am, which has made me a much healthier person. I still miss coffee at the mere smell of it, but I wouldn't let myself go back to caffeine even if I could b/c it has been so beneficial to have it out of my life and body. Unfortunately, caffeine speeds up the systems in our body and for those of us that deal with IBS or refulux that is the last thing we need. I will get off my soapbox now but I just wish more people realized the effect caffeine has on the problems that our body is dealing with.

Check out www.secretenergy.com they have a free health analysis and they can tell you if you have a problem with your colon. To be honest it sounds like you might have Candida living in your intestines and it probably got out of control. Doctors will not be able to diagnose this easily. The reason i know it is b/c my bf had similar thing happen to him as you describe. Anyways, check out the site, hope it helps.
