Pain After Gall Bladder Removal

Hi, I found this board after searching for information on what to expect after gall bladder surgery. I usually do a ton of research on things beforehand but there was no time. I am now 10 days out from removal of my gall bladder, and yesterday I experienced the same pain, sore where gall bladder was, then very intense back pain between shoulder blades. I had not had it since surgery and yesterday was my first full day back at work, and I wondered if that's why I had not had it, I had been laying down, sitting up was what hurt, when I came home and laid down, it went away. This doesn't seem to make sense though. Am I strange, or has anyone else experienced this? I have my check-up with the DR. this morning, but I am afraid he will think I am crazy if I tell him this, or that something else is wrong with me. I had the new procedure, by the way, but probably would not spell t right. Thanks in advance, hope someone can shed some light on this.

Hi Teardrop.
I had my gallbladder removed 3 weeks ago yesterday. im still having pain in mid upper stomach and where the galbladder was, when i went for my post-op the dr said it is not uncommon to be sore and pain for 4 to 5 weeks and told me if it didnt go away by then to call him and he will want to run some test.it seems to be a little better i went back to work after 2 weeks and i work in child care so ive been lifting but he said it was ok after 2 weeks, i also saw an old co worker of mine today and she told me she was sore for almost 6 weeks,, so hang in there it should get better,,,

Hi there,

I hope your pain goes away soon. Definitely tell your doctor about it, no matter how silly it may seem.

I know over here, they used C02 to puff out my chest cavity to see and get to my gallbladder for removal. The C02 stayed in my system for weeks, and headed up to my shoulders and back. I was uncomfortable after having my gallbladder removed but not really in any kind of pain except for that C02 in my back/shoulders. That's something I don't wish to experience again anytime soon!

How long did it take for that CO2 to go away?? I am 2 weeks and a day out of surgery and still have some lodged in my abdomen so whenever I roll from my back to my side it sounds like liquid gushing in there. I do get the odd shoulder pain now and then, but nothing like the 3-4 days after..ouch!!

The discomfort from the C02 lasted a couple weeks for me. It was so uncomfortable, especially for lying down after sitting up for a while, and vice versa. Quite a pain in the ... well, neck.
