Question anyone taken/taking Acciphex
| Tue, 04-12-2005 - 11:40am |
I don't want to go into the whole question if no one is familiar with this drug so thought I would first just ask if anyone has taken or is taking the drug Acciphex? The question is specific to this drug as I have taken other proton-pump inhibitor drugs with different results (even though they are supposed to all be pretty much alike they are not do not let doctors convince you otherwise).
So, anyone with Acciphex out there?

Hi and Welcome to iVillage,
Yes I have taken Acidphex...Why???
By the way, welcome to the board!
Great that someone else has taken this drug -- here is my perhaps bizarre question about it....... did you notice any difference going on or off of it relating to weight loss/gain and/or the food choices you make? I know a bit odd so let me give you some more info that will hopefully make sense of this.....
I have taken other drugs, Protonix for example, but once I had taken samples of Acciphex the results were far more impressive. I was on Acciphex for 2 years or so and never had any luck if I tried to come off the drug (always nausea, reflux, etc. worse than ever after two weeks or so would have to be back on it in order to be able to hold food down) but to my surprise and thanks to a lot of time to learn what I had to do in order to maintain a healthy stomach (no caffeine, no coffee, eating something every couple of hours, not overeating at meals, etc.) I have been off the drug since the beginning of the year. I went through the end of a long term relationship and moving out which normally would have sent my stomach (due to emotional stress) over the edge, but everything continued as normal to my surprise. So, it seems as if I have conquered the problems I needed the drug for.......maybe. Here is the question part..... I have been slowly putting on weight over the last 8 weeks or so and I know it is due to my food choices and eating more. I don't blame all this one the absence of the drug....afterall my cravings and giving in are my own problem, but I do notice it seems much harder for me to resist reaching for more carbs. I recognize this b/c I know that anytime my stomach bothered me in the past I of course wanted bread, crackers, etc. more than anything else. I also know that in the past if I ever tried to go off the drug as soon as I was back on my appetite regulated a bit better and I found myself less bothered by the desires of my blood sugar level.
I do recognize this could all be in my head, but it just seems like it is much easier to maintain my weight due to better food choices when I am on the medicine b/c I am not wanting carby food that is easy on the stomach. (the odd part is that I am not reaching for it b/c of my stomach bothering me, just b/c wanting it and this is bad b/c too much processed sugar is what kickstarts my reflux and their is a lot of sugar in carb items). Just curious if anyone else has ever noticed a change in their diets/appetite once on or off proton-pump inhibitor drugs?
HI,
I do know that aciphex can cause weight gain and also weight loss while you are on the drug.
