Left Side Pain; Not Diverticulosis

This is my first posting on this board, but not my first ivillage posting. I've found that when all else fails, the women at ivillage usually come through like champs! I've been experiencing pain in the lower left side of my abdomen, extending sometimes to my hip and down my left thigh, and occasionally even into the groin area.

I recently had a CT scan of the abdomen that showed no diverticulosis, and aside from a small liver cyst that will be checked out by ultrasound this week, everything looked "excellent." BUT I STILL HAVE THE PAIN, and a new ditzy internist who's clueless. Oh, and at the same time, I've been having what I think is the usual gamut of IBS symptoms: on and off cramping after meals, on and off constipation, on and off pain at the top end of the stomach (esp. left side), and finally, gas pressure and the need to expel it.

Any thoughts for a worried and confused advertising writer (lots of stress) who's 54?

THANK YOU!

Hi, i have the same pain there as well for about 2 yrs now. mine goes all across the lower abdomen and lately in the naval. when i told my dr about it 2 yrs ago i mentioned that it was probably my overies, she said no, she thought it was diverticuolis. so off i went for a colonoscopy (which i understand is the best way to diaganose it) and it was totally clean and clear. it went away for quit awhile but now its back. i had my gallbladder out 4 weeks ago and that might be some of the pain im feeling. get pain in upper left and right still.so never found out what causes the pain. good luck and hope you feel better

Thanks Donna for sharing your similar "unknown" pain. Not to get too personal, but I'm curious, did the dr. ever suggest it was gall bladder-related, eg. gall stones (and that's why you had the surgery)? I'm having a liver/pancreas/gall bladder ultrasound today, so I'm especially intrigued by this line of thought. Thanks, Sig
