I just got out of the hospital this afternoon. I went in for a test (sigmoidoscopy) Friday at 6:30am and the doc. said I have ulcerative colitis! He admitted me right then and there saying I was really very sick. I've never stayed in a hospital before at all and was having anxiety attacks too from being there (doc said). I was on a liquid diet from Thursday after my appt. to Monday when they said I could have toast. Hooked up to the IV since Tuesday. They said I'll be fine and don't know what caused it. They sent me home with five different med. pills that I have to take certain ones at certain times of the day for certain days... talk about counfsing!! I have to eat bland food like toast and chicken, etc. for awhile til the follow up appt. next Wednesday and see what the doc says. I can not believe this has happened to me! I was so scared and upset! I'm feeling better now...just light headed I guess from the meds or something.

Thank you ALL for your kindness and for caring so much and posting to me... I really appreciate your support.

Jane,

It will take time for your intestines to heal.

Hi! Thank you all again for your support. I had my two follow-ups today. One with the primary care doctor who just did nothing except fill out some paper work. The specialist though said that I'll more than likely have to be on Asacol for *years*! I almost burst into tears again! He said that I could go back to eating how I used to and that no food causes this. I've been having diahrea *a lot* today though but no blood. Maybe I'll be better soon then. He made some generic comments on how some people may need surgery, etc. He said eventually I'll need a colonoscopy but not now. He is tapering me off Prednisone by one pill a week. I go for another follow-up in four weeks and will see how I am from there. Hopefully can be off Prednisone a couple weeks after that all the way. I asked about me returning to work and he said he could write a note saying I could stay out longer since I go the bathroom a lot still. I told him that I want to get back out there and do things. Overall, he felt that was a good idea and said I can go to work tomorrow. I just feel so upset some because I don't want to be on meds for years and years especially taking so many a day, etc. I feel this is all so sureal. Looks like I'll be doctor co-pay/prescription girl for a long long time! I'm bummed out but at least am feeling better and can eat normal. The med. asst. at the doctor's said I looked more perky this time. Thanks again for the support. I'm sure I'll be around here on the board from time to time.

Hi Jane,

No, you don't need a new doctor.

Thank you and for taking the time to respond. Today is the best I've felt in *weeks*. I'll keep you posted... and what the doc says when I go back in a month.
