natural solution for IBS?
| Sun, 04-24-2005 - 9:34pm |
hello everyone, just had a question wondering if anyone could help. I have been having stomach pains for a long time and my doctor has pretty much narrowed it down to either being gallbladder disease or irritable bowel syndrome. he told me that IBS is very hard to treat. I was already on one type of medicine for it and it didn't help. I have done a little research on enemas. I was just wondering if this could help with IBS syptoms at all? would it be something worth trying? any input would help, thanks

Hi minnarose - has the doctor done any tests to rule out the gallbladder as being a cause of the problems?
Any time you are looking at natural solutions - the first thing to start with is diet.
The GB is easy - low fat. Reduce (or eliminate) processed food from your diet (ie. high calorie fast food, stuff that comes in packages, deli food, soft drinks - both regular and diet).
There is a food journal at www.fitday.com that lets you input what you've eaten and it provides you with a breakdown of where the calories are coming from
If it's IBS - I would think eliminating processed foods, deli, junk food, etc would be a first step.
I don't think I'd call an enema 'natural' - more like an 'do it at home' treatment. Two very different things. What does your doctor thing about this treatment? Or have you discussed it with a Naturopath.

Best of luck - I'm sure some of the ladies who have manged their IBS will be along with ideas for you,
