Hi all. Donna K here again, its weird i posted this a few hours ago but for some reson it did not post. anyway, still not feeling good after 5 weeks post op gallbladder.. still having some pain in upper mid and upper right some days its mild some days like today its pretty bad, i called the surgeon back last week, they sent me for blood work and set up an appt with him for the next day. blood work was just fine, liver funcition good and white count good a little anemic thats all. he examined me good and said he didnt think anything was wrong, he said it will take up to 2 months to feel normal. i dont think this is normal to still be in pain this long. im wondering if it is food not agreeing with me or what, pain in naval area gets pretty sharp at times some pain in lower abdoman at times had colonoscopy about 2 yrs ago and it was just fine. upper GI series just showed my reflux acting up. any suggestions on what this pain could be from.. i just want to feel good again, dont think its ever going to happpen,.

Donna - what type of food are you eating?
Have you an idea of what percentage of your calories are coming from fat? (www.fitday.com does the math - you just have to spend time inputting the food you consume)
I was told that it takes the body 5 months to adjust! After I was still experiencing pain after eating food high in fat (10 months post gb surgery) they finally did an ultra sound and found that there was some inflamation with one of my ducts. (thank goodness I wasn't just imagining things).
Now I'm waiting to see if it resolves on it's own and they will do another ultra sound in the summer and then 'further testing' (what ever that means) if required.
I recorded my info on fitday so that I could tell my doctor that on days when I consumed more than 20% of my calories from fat I'd be in discomfort. I think that 25 - 30% of calories from fat is a normal healthy amount (I'd have to check that - but below 20 isn't healthy on a long term basis ).
I have to start doing that again as I see my doctor in 2 weeks time. It is easier for them to understand if I tell them the #s since 'low fat' is really a subjective phrase - but 17% is pretty black and white.
I don't think I've been much help - but I totally undersand the frustration,
Jo
thanks again
Donna
Sorry to hear you are not feeling too good.
Hi Donna - I have CBC, Chem & a number of other blood test done every 2- 3 months to monitor my lupus. Also a complete urinalysis. The liver enzymes were slightly elevated at one point - then re-checked after 2 wks and had come down. That was around Oct/04
I actually got a call this a.m. from Drs office to tell me that my ultra sound was Monday morning! I had to ask them what excactly they were ultrasounding as I have a number of issues. When I saw the Dr in Feb he was going to wait till next visit to decide if we should do an u/s. . .so I was quite surprised. They will be doing my blood work that day as well and the results will be available to my Dr for my May 10 visit.
I think you will find fitday quite an eye opener. I know that I sure did.
I have a co-worker who had her gb out the same time I had mine removed - she eats hamburgers, fries and doesn't have any problems. I can't even imagine eating that kind of food.
If I eat something that is high in fat (or a series of slightly high-fat meals over a few days) and end up really nauseated I'll go on a very low-fat diet for a few days and not eat any processed food.
Hope you are feeling better soon,
Jo
