Liver Cysts

Hi everyone,
I've just been told that my abdominal CT scan has shown liver cysts.(I went for the CT scan to find out if I had stones in either my kidney or bladder, I don't have either). The urologist seemed unconcerned about the cysts and wants to do a cystoscopy next week to check the bladder. Has anyone had any experience w/liver cysts? I'm kind of scared right now and not sure what to do next.
Thanks so much:)

I was told the very same thing when I went in for an abdominal CT scan a few weeks ago. And I too was scared -- especially since my scatterbrained dr. left town without explaining what the heck a liver cyst was and what it really means to my health. What I finally found out was this: NOT TO WORRY! Usually, these cysts are routine and found when you're having tests for various other things.
I did get a liver/gall bladder/pancreas ultrasound to follow up and the cyst proved to be so small that the sonographer couldn't even find it!
I learned from the RNs (as I said, my soon to be ex-dr. is clueless) that they can come with age or as the result of having mono with accompanying hepatitis when you're young (I had it in my early 20's). Unless they're large and interfere with other organs, they're typically symptom-less and NOT related to a) malignancies or b) cirrohsis (oh, my God).
Google "liver cysts" and you'll find out lots more. But don't obsess!

Hi
Thanks so much for the great insight...I'm in the process of learning a bit more. It was amazing that my doctor did the same thing...he left a message on my voicemail saying, "CT looked great no worries, you have numerous liver cysts but shouldn't be anything to worry about.." Unbelievable!
I hope that things are going well with you and that you are feeling better:)
They haven't told me much of anything...just numerous cysts..not sure why. I'm in the process of looking for a liver specialist in Los Angeles or SF. If anyone has any ideas I'd be most appreciative.
