Folk medicine has often considered to be used only by the poor and/or uneducated. The truth of the matter is that all of us have used some form of folk medicine. Often called a home remedy, or "Mom's" cure, we have tried teas, soups, herbal remedies or other "folk medicine" remedies to help with a wide range of illnesses and conditions, ranging from "cures for the common cold" to cures for exhaustion. Although treatments usually are given in one's own home, they may also be given at some relatives home, or even at a lay healer's home.

HI Sig,

First off, we are all different and we all react to things differently. Secondly, it would be a very boring world if we were all alike. Yes, you are right, vinegar is a trigger for GERD. But like was stated, there are different types of vinegars. And some of them don't bother people with GERD. There are many herbs out there that can help. On this board we try to look at both prescription meds and alternative therapies. More and more people are trying the atlernative therapies these days because they can't afford the regular drugs. And yes, you should always speak to your doctor before trying any of these remedies. But, most people don't. I want us to all get along here and share our knowledge with each other. We are here to help each other out.

What makes you so sure that you can rule out things you may or may not have? You said yourself that your symptoms matched some things, but not others of several different problems. Perhaps you don't have GERD or reflux (although several of us have mentioned to you that your symptoms are EXACTLY the same as ours (inlduing the laying down part and we were properly diagnosed by a doctor), but YOU can NOT possibly make that decision.

You came looking for advice on this board....so you got it. Why ask for it if you were just going to criticize the answers you got. Yes, there are different opinions as to home remedies vs. px, etc., but the reality is that most of us here have had several years (if not decades based on some individual's posts) to figure our bodies out better. It took me awhile to know that my body requires food at certain times of day and in certain ways in order for me to stay off medicine. In order to not take a px everyday (as I did for 2.5 years) I have had to work hard to give up caffeine and all forms of coffee, to rarely indulge in a few of my favorite unhealthy items and most importantly, to understand what my body requires when it gives me certain symptoms and to do it without hesitation....that is how I control problems that could be much worse.

This is not a board to diagnose you if you haven't figured that out already....that is what doctors are for. We offered you a few suggestions to research based on our own experiences, but bear in mind that most of us here have had endless tests to rule out several things before a decision was made on the actual problem.

Go see a doctor.

Hey Irish,

Did your doctor rule out the GERD??
