Hi to all. as most of you remember I had my gallbladder removed 8 weeks ago today, was at the surgeons at the 2 week checkup and still was not feeling well went for 4 week checkup still not well they did blood work and my liver is good and my white count is good. my question is now its been 8 weeks and i still feel horrible. stomach is up set all the time some days a little some days pains all day. ive been on a low fat diet and it is not helping. pain is still in mid upper radiating to upper left and right goes down to navel and across both side from there. do i call the surgeon back and demand test or is this still normal to feel this way. i usually have a BM once a day so that isnt the problem. the diet does not seem to be the problem im at a loss here and getting very depressed about this im suppose to go to Fla on vac in 5 weeks and im thinking of not going now. my dr did pancreaatic enzymes and they were normal ( does that mean i dont have pancreaitis??) upper GI showed no problems but the reflux acting up.. any suggestions would be very helpful here.the surgeon told me to give it 2 months which will be on the 21st of this month.
Thanks in advance

Hi Donna,
Hi Donna - I don't have any insight or solutions to offer.
I was told that it can take 6 months post-op for the body to adjust.
It wasn't till 9 months after my surgery that they decided to do an ultrasound. I'd also lost about 10 lbs (down to 113 lbs) in a month and that got their attention (I've since put most of it back on and am sitting at about 120 lbs).
The u/s showed some dilation of a duct - so they wanted to 'watch and see'. The follow up u/s (May 05) showed that it was normal.
Right now I"m awaiting a referal to a GI.
I'm eating a low fat diet - and the fats that I do eat are not saturated fats. I feel my diet is to high in carbs - but my Dr thinks it's okay.
I'll also be asking for a referal to a dietician.
My symptoms are nausea and sometimes pain. And that's on a low fat diet. I've even had the pain wake me up at night - and I don't know what the trigger is. Sometimes (like yesterday) I'll experience really bad pain (much like when I had my GB) shortly after a meal - but it lasts only about 30 - 60 minutes. Not sure which is worse - severe and brief or low grade and long lasting.
If I eat something fattening (Ie. if I consume more than 25% of calories from fat) then I'm guaranteed have worse pain & nausea. The other trigger is waiting to long between meals.
I hope you are feeling better real soon (and please let us know what works for you!)
Jo

Hey Donna!!
Why don't you try cutting out all dairy products for 2 weeks and see what happens.
Hey Wren,
I had my hysterectomy in 2002, Oct 13th to be exact.
It may of been the milk that is causing the problem.. ( just my 2 cents)
Do you always have a problem when eating any type of milk product? Maybe you should do as Lynn suggest and see what happens..
I know
thanks
Donna
Hi Donna - what kind of cereal are you having? And how much? are you using milk on it? Does it contain any dairy products? Some cereals are high in fat - check the label carefully - some will look like they are low calorie/fat then you realize that it's only for 1/4 cup.
Was the tuna sand made with mayo or butter? other sandwich spreads or sauces?
How about the granola bar - some have as many as 200 calories with 40% of the calories coming from fat.
And the soup - was it a cream soup or did it contain beef? Often the fatty cuts of beef are used in soups.
I think someone mentioned removing dairy - you know that I never thought I was sensitive to a number of foods till I eliminated them for a month then reintroduced them (one at a time of course) Then I really saw a reaction!
The granola bar likely has dairy in it - but you can get some protein bars that are dairy free (and gluten free)at health food stores.
Soy drinks or rice milk are options to use as drinks or on cereal. Personally I don't like the taste of either straight up but don't mind rice milk on cereal.
low fat & dairy free breakfast options:
*soy cheese slices ( I don't care for them - but thought I'd mention it)
* melted soy cheddar on rice cakes (I don't mind soy cheddar in something or with something but don't like it plain)
*dried fruit (measure it out - calories can add up quickly)
*fresh fruit
*fruit smoothie (made with fruit juice or soy beverage and add what ever fresh or frozen fruit you have handy). One you get the technique down they really are a very quick breakfast & you can take it along in the car.
* toast (does bread have dairy in it? I don't buy it so not sure) with just jam or natural peanut butter
* rice cakes with jam & nat'l peanut butter. (I find that I can make a tbs of PB last for * 4 rice cakes by adding jam & mushing it up before spreading it on the rice cakes)
* rice crackers w/ Hummus. Read the labels on rice crackers - some contain milk products (usually the flavoured ones). I love hummus as a spread on many different things. I have some low fat recipes if you like. (very easy! you just need a food processor or a good blender). This really isn't a breakfast food - but thought I'd mention it.
Best of luck Donna,
Jo
