Hello. I posted on here a week or so ago about my troubles with constipation, gas, bloating, and frequent urination. I tried Metamucil at first but then I switched to prunes as recommended by another board memember. I am still continuing with the prunes and trying to make myself drink more water.

I went to the doctor today. He wants me to cut out dairy products for 2 weeks to rule out lactose intolerance. Personally, I don't think I'm lactose intolerant but I'm going to do what the doctor says. Then, if in 2 weeks after not eating any dairy products, I still have my symptoms, I am to start Zelnorm for IBS. He gave me samples to take home. He wants to see me in a month to see how I am doing. As for the frequent urination, I read online that it is a symptom of IBS. Does anyone here who has IBS have the frequent urination also? Just curious.

That's all for now. Thanks for the help!

Kristen

kristen,

Yes i have frequent urination and i can't pinpoint any other reason than the IBS. It is just a nuisance. I have also been taking zelnorm and it has been working good with no side effects.

Good luck!

Hey Kristen,

I go too frequently to know if it is associated with my IBS or not.

Wherever you go, you first scope out the location of the nearest toilet. You can't get a good night's sleep because the pressure or pain in your bladder wakes you up. And you may also have pain in your pelvis, which can range from mild burning or discomfort to severe pain.

You may think you have a bacterial urinary tract infection (UTI), known as cystitis, but antibiotics haven't helped. Instead you may have interstitial cystitis, or painful bladder syndrome. Interstitial cystitis affects between 700,000 and 1 million Americans. While it can affect children and men, most of those affected are women. The disorder can have a long-lasting adverse impact on your quality of life.

Although interstitial cystitis is chronic, for most people it isn't progressive, which means that however mild or severe your symptoms, they won't usually get worse over time. For many, the severity of symptoms fluctuates, and for some, the condition goes into periods of remission. Rarely, some people may experience rapidly worsening symptoms associated with a smaller bladder that's unable to hold a normal amount of urine.

Although there's no treatment that reliably eliminates the signs and symptoms of interstitial cystitis, a number of medications and therapies offer relief. Work with your doctor to find what works best for you.

Daniss3456 I think that I read somewhere that urinary frequency is common with IBS. It is definitely a nuissance! Lynn and Wren, I have previously researched interstitial cystitis and some of they symptoms definitely match mine. I don't have any pain at all but I do feel an uncomfortable pressure on my bladder when I have to go causing a sense of urgency. I don't know if it's IC or part of IBS (if that's what I have). Thanks for the info on IC however! Right now I am still on the no-dairy diet. I didn't realize I really ate that many things with milk until I couldn't have it. So far I have felt fine. I had some constipation on Friday but I haven't had any bloating or gas. I still have another week though. If I still have problems after 2 weeks of no-dairy, the doctor advised me to start taking the Zelnorm and then come back for a checkup after 2 weeks on it. Thanks for all the help. I'll let you know how things go.

Kristen :)
