Need post gallbladder surgery advise

Hi I need some advise. I am 24 years old and just had my gall bladder removed a week ago today. I ate a healthy low fat diet before I had problems. I'm not obese and haven't had a pregnancy. My doctor told me it could just be genetics that caused my problems since it runs in my family. My gall bladder was full of gallstones and was enlarged as well. I had it done laproscoptically. My incisions are healing well, I'm a little sore in my abdomen where my gall bladder was, but nothing besides minor discomfort and the occasional sharp pain. However I am still extremely bloated, nauseas and have constant heartburn. My doctor had advised me that I would be bloated due to the carbon dioxide in me from the surgery. But I have felt sick to my stomach all week. I am still on a very low fat diet. Any advise for dealing with this? Does anyone know, on average how long it takes to subside?

Hi E - welcome to the board. I'm glad your surgry went well.

After my surger I had to wear elastic pants for at least 2 weeks - and then it took another 2 wks after that before I could fit into my jeans comfortably.

I was nauseated on a daily basis for several months after surgery (despite eating a low fat diet). It did get better. I was told that some people take longer than others to adjust. My co-worker was eating greasy burgers & fries the week after her surgery without any problems.

Wishing you all the best,
Jo

Hello,

I had mine out the end of March. I was bloated and in pain from the CO2 for about 2-3 weeks. Unfortunately the nausea for me has not gone away yet, although it is less then it was before surgery. I had some severe nausea for about a week after my GB was removed and was told to drink LOTS of water because it was from anesthesia and the pain meds. If I eat alot of greasy/spicy foods in one day then I pay for it with cramps, nausea and diahrea.

Hope your feeling better soon!

I know the feeling!
I am still having nausea daily--which I was told should go away after surgery. I am beginning to think getting my GB removed was a bad idea! The aching under the rib cage is mostly gone although I do get the odd twinge now and then and I get alternating diahrrea and normal BM's(well as normal as you can get without a GB). I find that if I eat too much fatty/greasy/spicy foods I feel terrible the rest of the day and next day too.

Sorry to hear your not feeling any better...you should go back to your dr. about the pain--it doesn't sound normal.

Thank you very much for your advise and support. My doctor suggested that I try a high fiber diet to reduce the heartburn which in turn will stop the nausea. It definitely is helping. I am feeling much better.

I know this is not normal still feeling this way 2 months after i go to my PCP tomorrow for a follow up appt ill see what she thinks.the pain in the naval area is what is confusing me. dont think this is related to the surgery. Do You all? the pain in the upper mid is not constant but comes and goes could be my reflux acting up. I agree with you Donna M im wishing i would never have had the stupid thing out.I am surprised i do not have the diherra as most people seem to have after the surgery my BMS are very normal.
Take care all
