digestive enzymes/acid reflux?

Hi there, haven't posted in a while, but I have a new question. I've been taking digestive enzymes now for about one month, have really helped with my gas & IBS problems, but in the past couple of days, I've started to notice that I have a bit of a burning feeling in my throat, sort of like acid reflux but I don't have the heartburn pain. I must admit that I do pop a couple of Goodys' headache powders a couple of times a day, and I'm beginning to think this is the problem. I do sometimes have a little stomach pain shortly after taking one, I know I need to stop, so I'm trying. I was just curious to see if anyone else has had any problems with digestive enzymes. To make matters worse, I had a terrible IBS flare up last night, didn't get to sleep until almost 3am, so I'm working today on 3 hours of sleep! I still have the burning sensation in my throat, and have taken a couple of maalox and one acid reducer pill, doesn't seem to last for more than 30 minutes. I did have some club crackers earlier when I got to work and the salt on the crackers seemed to bother it.
Got any suggestions?
Thanks,
Valerie

Hello Valerie, and welcome back
Well
I've been taking digestive enzymes for a couple of months now, and I would say the enzymes have helped my acid reflux. I haven't had an episode since starting the supplements. I also have a hiatel hernia, no problems.

Hi Wren,
Well needless to say, I feel much better today, no Goody's since Monday.
As for the digestive enzymes, I get mine thru www.puritan.com, get all my vitamins thru them also. They have alot of vitamins in gelcap form, like the multi vitamins and calcium. I did just get my enzymes reordered and they were having one of their good sales, buy 1 get 2 free, so 3 bottles of 100 ct each cost a total of $8.94 for all 3! They have vitamins and other pills for the whole family, even your pets.

Morning Valerie,
OMG!!!!
Hey Lynn,
Needless to say I've been so busy with family, scouts and work! My family is in the middle of scout summer camp, so I'm home by myself during the week, just me and the pets! Only 2 more weeks of summer camp, then my DH and DD will both be home then we take off to the beach at the end of July for our family vacation!
As for your questions, I've not been on the chinese herbs since before Christmas. I'm seeing an herbalist and the mix she gives me helps with the digestion and IBS part. I wish I was still going to the acupuncturist, but like you said, it gets expensive. During the past couple of months I've had to deal with a new diagnosis, IC, Interstital Cystitis. Just when I really had my IBS diet under control, then I had to change my diet to accommedate this! One of the hardest things I found with this change was not having tomatoes, like on salads, sandwiches, pasta dishes! I did find a local store that carries the low acid tomatoes and they are really good. I've begun to start putting things back in my diet that I had to cut out for the past couple of months. I have even read some of the posts on the IC board.
I feel like I've gotten my IBS problems under control, I probably have a so-so/bad day maybe once a month and it's not quite as bad as it used to be. I've even started to put a couple of pounds back on after losing so much weight last fall & winter. Doing the herbs, taking digestive enzymes and acidopholis daily really seem to make a huge difference for me, helps things to calm down and I don't seem to cramp as bad as I used to.

Valerie,
Valerie,
I use to do scout camp.
Hey Lynn,
As for the IC, I take a prescription for Elmiron, have been on it since the end of March and I really started to feel a difference about 1 month ago. It takes 3-6 months to really take effect, and I had to cut back on food high in acid, and other foods like processed meats. It took me about a week to find a local store that sold low acid tomatoes and I don't know if they will carry them all year round, guess I'll find out in the fall!
I did give the cider vinegar a try, nasty! Anyhow, it sort of felt like it burned the back of my throat, and didn't seem to help, so maybe it's not acid reflux. I just get this feeling in the bad of my throat, almost a scratchy, burning feeling, usually about 3-4 hours after a meal. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat. I think I'm going to give my herbalist a call and see what she might suggest. I really don't want to have to go to the doctor and take any new prescriptions. I'll keep you posted.
Happy 4th!~
Valerie
