Peachy Keen. Made my day to see a thread with my name on it:)
Things are going well here. I am getting better and better every day. I just passed the two week mark and was able to go Church on sunday without any problems. So I was HAPPY!
I still tired easily and have learned the hard way to eat low fat things. I had some turkey bacon last week, 2.5 grams of fat per piece and lets just say after that i may never eat bacon again.
For those of you who have had their GB's out how long did it take you to be able to eat "normal" food again? Without having horrible stomach pains and getting sick.
They say **Sometimes
Unfortunatly some things you learn the hard way. I did the same thing...went right into the things I couldn't eat before and had horrible diarrhea, nausea, cramps. I had mine out the end of March and my body still hasn't gotten use to it. I had diarrhea for about a month after mine was out. I don't have that problem anymore--thankfully. But I do get cramps and nausea about 30 mins. after eating fatty, greasy, spicy foods. And if I eat too much fat in one day I will be up 3/4 of the night with horrible nausea. So I try to stay clear of eating those. I still do indulge in the odd piece of chocolate...couldn't give that up if my life depended on it LOL. Everyone is different in how their body will react to no GB. My mom can eat anything she wants with no problems(pffffft to her), while my sister-in-law can't eat anything fatty, greasy or she will be in the bathroom for the rest of the day. You may be one of the unfortunate ones whose body can't digest fats as well--let's hope not!
Good Luck on your recovery and keep us updated!

I had my gb out in Feb 2004 and I still have to follow a low fat diet.
I don't eat eggs or meat - they cause to much grief.
Dairy in moderation (ie. maybe in coffee 3-4 times a week) Cheese isn't an option - I'd be up all night after eating more than maybe a 1" square (which is really small if you stop and measure it)
I was consuming to much sugar (ie soft drinks) but have now run into some other 'female problems' as a result of it - so I've been off refined sugar for the past 3 weeks.
Grains also cause some problems. I can eat it once in a while (ie once a week a tortilla) but any more than that and I end up bloated, gassy, and 'female problems' flare up.
On the plus side I don't have problems with spicey food, rice, beans, veggies, or fruit. . . .all the healthy stuff - so maybe this isn't the worst thing in the world.

Hi and its Great to See you Jo
I always love seeing your post
Prior to my diagnosis in Aug/03 I had 2 major attacks over a 10 yr period. I didn't know they were GB attacks till my diagnosis in Aug/03 and and even then can't say for sure. Just know that the symptoms were the very same as the 'big un' of Aug/03.
Over - say the last 10 yrs or so - I would have minor attacks - maybe a series of 2-3 over a 1 wk period about once a year - I'd wake up about 2 am in dreadful pain, vomit, feel better and it was over within 15 minutes. When I'd mention these to the doctor it was just 'oh well - watch and see' - they weren't concerned about doing tests for something that happened so infrequently.I could never link these episodes to anything - not a food binge or anything like that.
Since as far back as I can remember I've been nauseated easily - so that is no different. The GB removal didn't remedy that - if anything I'm more nauseated now.
The only time I had pain pre-GB removal was during those ever so infrequent attacks.
When the GB was removed the surgeon's report indicated that the walls in very bad shape and it wasn't an easy surgery - I remember at my follow up exam he told me that I really made him work! So I am grateful that they were able to remove it lap. Had it stayed in the attacks would have become more frequent and surgery would have had to happen sooner or latter. When a GB is that diseased there is no way to reverse it - it only gets worse.
The pain is definately worse since the surgery. It isn't even really pain - most of the time it's more like discomfort - and it anoys me so that just makes it worse.
Take care & hope you are having a great summer,
Jo
thanks
I am so glad
I was way too sick to make it to the Dr so I got rescheduled for next week. AM finally feeling alittle bit better after taking much anti d medicine.
The Receptionist at my Chiro tales Questrain (a powder) it soaks up the bile after it leaves your liver and heads for the small intestine and helps send it there, i think she said its a timed thing so its not all at once. She also takes Levbid for the pain/cramps. Her Dr, who is my drs parter) said this is very normal and there are many combinations of drugs that they can give you and fine tune it to your body. They just don't tell you about it before surgery! But thankfully it IS fixable and taking the medicine for the rest of your life will not harm your body in any way. She said now she is able to eat ANYTHING she wants.
There is HOPE for me after all...
