GB surgery and liver biopsy Monday

Hi Everyone,
My husband was able to meet with the surgeon yesterday. He is scheduled for Monday. We also found out he has an enlarged liver and they are going to take a small cut of the liver to do a biopsy. The doctor didn't seem too concerned. He said he just wanted to check it out while he was there.

He said the enlarged liver could be from fatty deposits(?) or from when he had mono at 17, he's 45 now. Anyone ever heard of this or have an enlarged liver?
Of course this has us concerned. But we are trying not to think of the what if's.

The doctor said to expect to be out two to three weeks because of his job.

Thanks everyone. Have a good day.

Thanks Wren....We will think positive. I don't think I'll have a problem with him listening to the doctor. Even under the circumstances I think the time off will do him good. Being a police officer you need to get away ever now. So we will make the best of everything and be POSITIVE. :)

Hi PJ - I was told that my liver on on the 'large side of normal' - so what ever that means. In an ultra sound they described it as 'prominent for the size of the patient' - or something like that. I'm 43 yrs old, thin, don't drink and there isn't a history of liver problems in my family (well -except our late cat - but he was adopted ;)

I've had abnormal liver values from time to time - but never consistently high. (ie. they'd be high one test - then a week later normal - then maybe another 9 months latter I'd throw high values). I have lupus so get blood test done every 3 months - so they are just following it.

Good for your dh to take time off. I don't know how his 'accessories' fit - but I'd imagine quite snug - the bloating after surgery certainly won't make it possible to fit into anything that's fitted for several days (have elastic pants and sweats on hand) The aenestic can also take a lot out of a person - physically and mentally we need our boys in blue to be bright and allert!

Thanks for the reply Jo and the info on the liver. Hope everything is going okay for you.
As far as the accessories - the gun, gunbelt, vest, etc. they all weigh about 23 lbs. Add my dh being overweight, it does make for a snug fit. We both lost a lot of weight and then went back to the old ways. So another good thing coming out of this is we are going to get back in shape again.

I Like the comment about the cat. We have two. Our third died awhile back from liver problems. We had to change his food (they quit carrying it)and he went a few days without eating and that's what caused the problem.

Take care and thanks again.

Thanks for your concern.
We will keep up the positive thinking and it really helps to get encouragement from others here. I will post next week to let you know how it goes.
Take care and you have a great weekend too.
