No fat foods

I have been diagnosed with gallstones and go to have an office visit with the surgeon on Monday, however, I am on a no-fat or extremely low fat diet as not to aggrivate any attacks...I've been surviving on fruit, jello, imitation crab, chicken, rice and I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray. Does anyone have a list of other fat free or low fat foods??? All I want is pizza and a burger, but can't have it. :(
Thanks, Shawna

I had my gallbladder out in March and I was told to eat low-fat for the weeks leading up to the removal. I found this website very helpful:
http://www.docsmed.com/diet.Htm
It is for gallbladder disease, IBS, anorexia(because they try to avoid fat, I'm guessing) and other digestive disorders. It gives a list of foods you can have and foods you shouldn't have. You could also try doing a search for "Gallbladder diet". I think that's how I came across that website.
Hope this helps!

Hi Shawan - when I was dx w/ gallstones & changed my eating habits it certainly was a challange.
The thing that made the biggest difference for me was when I changed my attitude about food. Rather than saying "I can't have XXX" I took back the power and said "I opt not to have XXX and will have YYY instead". Reason being XXX would cause symptoms such as pain, discomfort, nausea, vomiting, etc, and also put me at risk for ending up with a severe gb attack requireing emergency surgery.
Jello may be low in fat - but it is either high in sugar or uses artifical sweetner - both of which can be hard on a sensitive digestive system. I never understood why they feed jello to hospital patients - there is no nutritional value - food colouring, artifical flavour - just empty calories.
The following is a link to a thread on another board about the topic - http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-fbask/?msg=9940.4
There is a free food journal at www.fitday.com that provides you with amazing information about your food intake. You can actually see the percentage of calories that come from the different categories (ie. fat / protein / carbs)
One of the best cooking magazines I've seen is Cooking Light. Someone on this board had recomended it. Great recipes - and very healthy. Untill this health issue I hated to cook, and did as little as possible - I've made a complete turn around and I really think that it's been worth it.
All the best as you await your surgery,
Jo
Hi and Welcome to iVillage

Hi Shawna,
Welcome to iVillage!
Thanks to all of you for your advice. It helps. I'm going through a lot of stress lately, not just with this mess, but my brother was in a motorcycle accident a little over two weeks ago, his wife (after the accident) then tells him she wants a divorce and then my sister was in the hospital. All that makes me want to EAT. LOL... but, I'm managing and will keep you all informed as to my progress. Thanks again!

Shawna,
WOW!!!
Shawna,
Hello all, thanks for the great replies and good thoughts. I met with the surgeon today, September 9th - surgery day. :( But, at least it will be taken care of. He said they found multiple small stones so it has to be taken care of before they travel and cause more serious problems. Anyway, I'll be in the hospital overnight and then my parents are taking me to their house about an hour away from mine to "take care of me" for a couple days.
:) So, that's the news so far....I'll keep you updated.
Shawna
Yea Shawna!!!
It will be so nice to have your parents take care of you for a few days.
