Hello, my name is Ellen and I just stumbled upon this board. I was going through the health and well being board because I am having some issues (have to have a breast biopsy next week and also am possibly looking at having to have a hysterectomy d/t extreme bleeding and cramps during my periods, but all that is another story :) ).
Anyway --- I was dx with ulcerative colitis in 1999, I also have Gerd and was operated on for that in 1988 but it has since returned. I take asacol for the colitis and nexium for the gerd ---- I have it from both ends :)!!!
Anyway, I was just curious, I have a problem with my colitis that I was wondering if anyone else has --- I have a horrible anal fissure that I get almost every month that will start when I have diarrhea, however, it also seems to get worse with hormone fluctuations as well. The fissure is usually worse than the colitis flareup because it causes extreme agony when I go to the b/r.
I was just curious if anyone else goes through this.

Hi Ellen,
Wow it sounds like you have alot on your plate right now. I'm sorry that I don't have any answers for you about the fissure - I have GERD and IBS but not any fissures. Anyway I just wanted to give you my best wishes that all goes well with your breast biopsy. I just had one last December for a lump in my left breast and fortunately it was benign. I hope yours is too.
Take Care!
Sue :)
Hi and Welcome Ellen to iVillage ,
Boy you have come to the right site
~~Wren, ~~
Hi Wren,
Thanks for the welcome! We've actually "talked" before on Monday nite at the Peri/Meno chat room. I visit there quite often - both the chat and the board - since I am soon to be 55 and still in peri. ugh! I actually visit this board all the time but I don't think i have posted before. Can't offer much advice most times but I Love to read and learn from everyone. I have posted on the IBS and GERD boards since I am battling with those two conditions. Have talked with Lynn a few times.
Talk to you again!
Sue

Thank you everyone for the warm welome. I am going to check out some of the other boards.
In regards to the fissure --- I have had every prescription medication that is out there, am even going on a second round with some of them as I have not used them in a while and my Dr. feels give them another shot :)!!! The next thing they are thinking about is botox injections --- my husband makes fun of me for that one -- he teases me, everyone will go to a botox party for lines and stick their faces out for the injection and I will be sticking out my you know what :)!!!. I use the tucks as well --- but they really don't do much of anything for me. My little friendly fissure gets so bad that it hurts to even stand up --- the pressure of gravity.
In regards to the hormone issues --- they have been checked --- I am deficient on progesterone and my estrogen surges/wanes are not at the right times. So currently I am on a progesterone prescription for 10 days/month. This gets graphic here :) I had my first cycle this month and it did not help too much. When I talk about heavy --- I am leaking through 2 overnight pads in 1/2 an hour for 8-9 hours at a time during my first full day of my period with major clots as well. I am anemic now and on iron.
I feel like I am falling apart here. Oh well, one thing at a time.
Tomorrow I have my breast biopsy, so needless to say I am quite a bit nervous about that.
Lynn --- we do seem to have a lot in common :)!!!
Ellen
YOU take care and Let us know how your test comes out.
I am 46 and thank you so much for the prayers :).
