Annoying and Uncomfortable Problem

Hi All,

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place or not. I happen to have a problem that I need some help with.

A few years ago (almost 5), I had my gallbladder removed. I had dropped down to 95 pounds (I'm 5'2") and couldn't eat anything without an attack. After it was taken out things became normal. Well for the past year and a half things haven't been normal. My weight is currently 135-140 (I gained 25lbs. within a year). I have been complaining to both my PCP and Ob/gyn about bloating, gas and really bad cramps after I eat. Well, my gyn says it's because of my gallbladder being out and not processing food right, and keeps insisting on my loosing weight. My PCP says it has nothing to do with my gallbladder and just gives me samples of pills. The only test that was done was a sona gram to make sure I did not have a mass. I started a new job and the bloating is so bad sometimes after I eat that I need to unbutton my pants. Since I work with mostly men, I'm very embarrassed to do that. I am starting to write down how everything affects me, but it is frusturating.

Has anyone had to deal with this? I takes hours for the cramping to go away. Any help that you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

I have the same problem. I had my GB out in March and ever since I get the cramping, nausea, bloating after meals. My dr. thinks it might be IBS due to not having a GB. I notice that if I go to long between meals then the cramping is REALLY bad and usually followed by diarrhea. Not very pleasant.

Hi Chris and Donna,

I have some of the same issues - bloating, gas, cramping, and constipation, however I still have my GB. I think that whatever the cause of "IBS", if that's the problem, it's annoying, painful, and embarrasing to have these things going on.

I have been a vegetarian for 13 years (half of my life) and did not have noticible digestive issues until I was in college. I had hives which my Dr. attributed to stress. He prescribed Prednisone, a stearoid, to releive the hives. This weakened my immune system so much that I became ill with pnemonia, bronchitis, hives again, and shingles all within two years.

Although I've been healthy now for 4-5 years, my stomach has never been the same. I find that for me regular exercise (ie: a little every day) is the best medicine so far, because it relieves stress and gets things moving. It doesn't fix my stomach issues but it helps me feel a lot better.

One question though:
I have recently had new symptoms such as nausea and burping right after I eat which I've never had before (in fact I've never really been able to burp in my life). This has been happening regardless of what, when, or how much I eat... I'm wondering if either of you have these symptoms as well or if anyone knows if this could be more serious?

Best,

Sarah
