the radiologist Dr. called today -- he looked my results up on the computer and the good news is I have the early stages of breast ca, the bad news is I have breast ca.

I have an appt. with the surgeon on Tuesday so we will go over my options, however, I live near Boston and I am seriously considering going into Boston to make sure that I am getting the best care and follow up that I can get. My neighbor has had breast ca 4 x and has a dr. at the Dana farber (spelling) institute of ca and I think I am going to call them on Tue to try and get an appt.

again, thank you all for your prayers and thoughts --- I know I will beat this :)!!!

After all when you have colitis and gerd and a pesky fissure --- you can handle anything
:)!!!!

Dear Ellen,
I am truly sorry to hear that your biopsy showed cancer. I definitely recommend that you go for a second opinion regarding your treatment. I also live in the Boston suburbs and have friends who have gone in to town for cancer treatments. Dana Farber is definitley a good start and so is Brigham and Women's Hospital and Mass General. From what I've heard DF and BW are partners. I just went on line and found their websites - hope the links work.

I would also recommend that you visit the Breast Cancer Support board here at IV. Last December when I was dealing with the uncertainty of the lump in my breast, I found the ladies there to be sooooo helpful and supportive and knowledgeable. They have all been through so much you really should touch base with them.

I wish you well as you begin to figure out your next steps. I will send lots of prayers and good thoughts your way. Keep smiling - they say a good positive attitude is the bestway to beat this disease and it appears that you are on the way.

Take Care!

Hi Ellen - I'm so glad that they caught things early and I hope that you breeze through the next few months. You have a positive attitude and I really think that it makes a huge difference when dealing with any situation.

My mom was diagnosed w/ breast cancer 2 yrs ago and after a lumpectomy and radiation she's doing just fine.

I don't mean to bombard you with unsolicited information - but one of the books that I read after her diagnosis is The Breast Book by Dr Susan Love. A wonderful book - and honestly - an 'owner's manual' that I think any woman would benefit from reading. Dr love also has a web site - http://www.susanlovemd.com/

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers,
Jo

Thank you guys for your thoughts and helpful information. I have posted on the breast cancer support board here and the people there do seem really nice and supportive.

I am checking out the web sites you recommended Sue and Joann. And I am definitely getting more than one opinion. My husband will go with me on Tuesday and I am already writing questions down.

Again, thank you for your support.

Ellen
